Eh. Pretty poor list. Joe McNally have much more influence on photography than most of the people on there.

The father of War Photography in the 90s?
The father of glamour photography in the 90s?
Eddie Adams, the man who took the picture that may have ended the Vietnam War, is not listed.

Hell, Jasmine Star has probably influenced more new photographers than most of those on that list.

There is not much on that list to agree with.

I agree with most on the list. These are the 100 most influential of ALL time. I would have def. added Eddie Adams and James Nachtwey. These are also people known for their images. Jasmine is known for blogging, not because she does great photography. 30 years from now, I will expect Lara Jade and Joe McNally to be on that list. If you grew up with dark rooms and such, a lot of these are the photographers we studied.

Are they talking about their influence on photography or on the world?

Ugh. Don't know how I could leave out Nachtwey. One of the true all time greats.

Not to discredit Avedon in any way, but when you start with him as #1 you can see how this is going to go.

Cindy Sherman @ 14????? Really???? I don't think she makes my top 100.

One I would have added was David Hume Kennerly.

But that could just be me.

I guess that most influential photographers are those who showcase life at its lowest or life at its most dangerous form, though that should not be the case.

People really have a soft spot for subjects that are a little touchy making it hard for mainstream or pop photographers to take such credit as well. I find it quite disheartening that they always lose even with such effort given to their pieces.

no anne geddes, either (i mean, if we're throwing jasmine star in there).

yes, again she's more "pop culture" but still, very talented and influential (as far as portrait photography goes). i don't think infant photography would have gained such popularity in its current form had she not come along.

No WeeGee, set the standard for urban photography, police blotter photos. Used InfraRed film and flash bulbs in the 40-50s for crime site photos. Arthur Fellig.
