Peta Wilson! Peta Wilson! I loved both!

What might be of redeeming social value with TGWTDT is that I read that the director (and I think the screenplay writer) of the new version have not seen the Swedish movies, so their interpretation shouldn't be prejudiced by the originals. I won't decide until I see the new one - after it comes our on DVD.

I have read all of the books and seen all of the original movies. I am not excited about the remakes. The original movies were very well done. The remakes are for those who do not want to read the subtitles of the foreign language movies.

Oh, I can be more cynical than that, Jay. I think the remakes are being made because some slobs in Hollywood:

1. Were caught with their pants down, with both the books and the Swedish movies and,

2. Were embarrassed by not having done them first and,

3. Wanted to try to cash in on what might be left of the Millennium Trilogy hysteria, which they are likely to do.

Stieg Larsson died in late 2004, and the first Swedish movie didn't come out until early 2009. Had Hollywood been on the ball, they could have probably made the movie for much less money (they probably wouldn't have had to hire Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer), and like you said, they would have done them in English. That would have scooped the Swedes. But you are correct: We have some people too lazy to read the subtitles.

That's kind of what I was worried about... I have all three of the original ones, and the books (though I haven't read them yet - so many books I'm half way through...lol). I loved the original trilogy. The previews for the remake didn't make it look like it would live up to the Swedish version...

I'll probably wait for it to hit HBO...

Amazon Instant Video has all three of the original ones available dubbed in English for rent ($3.99) or purchase ($11.99), or view for free with an Amazon Prime Membership. My wife and I watched all three and they are very well done. This link will get you to the first one:

Saw it tonight. Best movie I have seen in a long time.

I would be flabbergasted if Mara doesn't receive an Oscar and Golden Globe. She was amazing.

*I should note that I have not read the books or seen the other makes of it.

Will have to watch it. I read the books and saw the Swedish films, which I loved.
