Fortunately, there are far more talented photographers than hacks, though there are some plain ol' snapshots from time to time. My only real complaint is they do not control nudes. It's good they have the gray shield, but only if the photog marks them as such. They should all be in their own forum, rather than on the main pages, IMHO. And, some of it borders on porn. Again, IMHO. I emailed them about it and got a timely response. They said they were working on it, but that was some time back.

There are many times I would love to send a link to an image to family and friends, but dare not.

I totally agree with everything you said. It takes me from a WOW concerning a wildlife photo to 3 seconds later a WHOA because my virgin Tim Tebow eyes just seen naked flesh of the opposite sex.

Great Quality site but yeah needs more control!

I'm not concerned about "...naked flesh of the opposite sex." My concern is it is among the rest of the images. Sending a link to others may be a problem, particularly when I would like to send pictures of funny animal images to my young grandkids and such.

Ha! I totally agree.
Sometimes I look on there and it makes me want to get out and shoot.
Other times it makes me want to throw away my camera because I'm obviously using it wrong.

I left them for a while because of the nude issue, and just didn't feel comfortable sending the links to others I share with, but they seem to have gotten better and I set an account back up.

And I agree with John. It is always a mix of inspiring and depressing. :) Especially when you post a shot that you think is really good that gets no notice, but then see a shot of a girl with her shirt half unbuttoned that gets a thousand hits and likes in the first 10 minutes. Not that I'm bitter or anything. :p

I follow a number of very talented people and a lot of it... wow, it's almost not fair.

I have a question. Do any of you who have been on 500px for a while remove pictures that have never been liked? Just checking out some of your galleries and notice that almost every one of your pictures have a rating of something other than n/a. Just curious if you are removing the "stale" photos or if you actually get people voting on every one of your shots.

I've never remove a photo from mine. But really I just post them to share. Getting "likes" and comments is nice but that's not my motivation to post. I'm only putting my favorites shots on there, the rest I put on FB and flickr.

I'm with Jake. I just put my personal favorites there. All the noise goes to Flickr and FB. I think they even suggest doing it that way. Probably why there's such awesomeness there.

I can agree with that thinking. My main objective is sharing what I have seen, but it helps to know that someone else is actually looking. :)

That's one of the things I like about here. Not only do people respond when you post something, if I am blind to the photo's failings, they will (hopefully) be pointed out so the next photo I make will be better.

But back on topic, yes, the photos on 500px are extreamly inspiring. For me, they (mostly) are a quality to stive for.

Apparently, 500px.com is launching a market site that allows photographers to sell prints and digital downloads of their photos that are hosted there....just got an email saying they are about to launch this functionality.

Saw that as well. I also saw that it is recommended that your photos have at least 3600 pixels on the longest side though. I guess they think everyone is going to be selling posters? lol.

I was able to shut off nude content, but yeah, some people don't make it as such. that site should build a nipple recognition app or something.

anyway, I just got up on that site this week, check/follow/like/etc if you're bored.

500px / Patrick Hughey / Photos

I still have a lot to upload, I'm just spreading it out.

You would think that if the site really cared about people marking nudes correctly they would enforce it. They could simply make it a rule that if you don't mark it correctly and get flagged by another user your account will be suspended. Three stirkes and your out or something like that.
