Love it.

Free 2 day shipping on everything. Upgrade to 1 day for $3.99. I buy most things with Amazon, so nice to order and get quickly.

Also, you get to watch their crappy selection of online streaming movies and TV shows FREE!

I like it for the above reasons (though I've found some good movies free also). They're also starting to "lend" some kindle books free to prime subscribers.

Since going prime a few years ago, I've started doing most of my shopping on Amazon. Factoring for equivalent 2-day shipping costs, I usually get my Prime investment back by a month or two in. The list of goods that qualify for Prime is great and constantly growing. Most items arrive early for me, always packaged well. I've only had a couple of mess-ups and their customer service is awesome.

Also, their crappy selection of online movies and TV shows is REALLY crappy... but Amazon's servers are belligerently fast. You can watch bad movies without buffer interruptions!

Ditto to all of the above.
they are suposed to be getting better streaming video as time goes on in order to go up against the big boys like Netflix.

I bought my daughter a crappy google tablet for Christmas and ended up taking it back and getting her the Kindle Fire. With the prime she can get a bunch of books for free and new ones added all the time.

On our 2nd year of prime and we really like it. A lot of times the two day shipping ends up being next day for whatever reason.
Plus our new bluray player does the Amazon instant so I'm re-watching Arrested Development because it's easier than putting in the DVD's...

I have had it free for a long time thanks to diaper subscriptions, but that are doing away with the free prime part, so I may have to suck it up and buy in. Addicted to 2 day shipping and $3.99 overnight.

Love prime. Been using it for about 4 years or so. Worth every penny.

If you have a family member that wants to go in with you, they have an option to add I think up to 5 people to the prime account. They all get access to the free 2 day shipping and $3.99 overnight, and the main account holder get that plus the other perks (Video onDemand etc). I've heard of people just signing up with friends before, but I'm not sure if they would be able to verify who is actually family and who is not.

I wasn't aware of that part myself. Guess I need to read into the fine print more often. I know I bought everything for Christmas this year off of Amazon with the exception of one item I had to order somewhwere else.

Beats the heck out of fighting crowds.

It really depends on what and why you need it.....

Is 2 day shipping and $3.99 overnight worth the $79 / yearly membership?

I looked into it mainly due to their unlimited instant streaming of movies and tv shows for traveling light (iPhone / iPad) as my main media source. If you review their portable media devices, it's only available for the Kindle fire at the moment. For me, that was a deal breaker...can't see myself dishing out $79 for 2 day shipping and $3.99 overnight when most of my purchase are delivered free even though it may take couple of days longer than 2 day shipping or the $3.99 overnight. (I can't vouch for movie / tv show selections - based on few replies, it looks like it doesn't have much of a selection)

My thread about Netflix / Hulu alternative options.

Another point...

I believe you can sign up for a free trial. I would suggest doing that to see how often you use the free shipping. I know I order a ton of stuff for work, but even if I didn't, the savings I get from the free shipping pay for the cost of membership many times over.

That's my point above, for the most part, most items are shipped based on certain criteria...

Why would you pay $79 yearly for free shipping when they already provide that for "free"......

Because the free shipping you receive when you spend $25 or more as a non-Prime user is just standard 5-8 day shipping, not 2 day shipping. That's a big difference, for me at least.

EDIT:
Just checked, the Free Super Saver shipping is 5-8 days, not 3-5 as originally thought.

I found that with a lot of stuff, even with the basic free shipping, I still get it in two days. Books especially.
