If you drive a lot, brace yourself -- the price at the pump is about to go up. Experts are predicting gas prices could reach nearly $4 dollars a gallon before the summer.

Yeah I see it rising everywhere :(
On the side note, since my next/final child is going to be born this coming May, I will not need to drive anywhere for a while :)

That's why I keep the mini, to offset the next car I buy :)
I guess I have always seen it as a trade off and never look at the gas because I have to drive. That just means less happy hours / dinners.

these experts often do a poor a job in their profession. no one really has any idea.
OTOH, I still haven't filled my car up in 2012. maybe I can make it an entire quarter of a year on one tank of gas?

I am also doing the 120mi round trip now and I am not sure I'd go back.

whew! that is a lot of life lost to being in a vehicle. it's for the public's good that I ride my bike most places. even a 14 mi round trip commute in a vehicle makes me think I need a therapist.

it may be $4, it may not be. Life is too short to worry about stuff like that that you cannot control. Control what you can, give the rest over to the Higher Authority (or fate, depending).

picked up a prius for my wife last year. we really like it. average mpg round-trip to colorado and back last fall was right at 50.4.
we started carpooling a couple of months ago. i say it is because it saves us right at $11 per day... the wife says it is because i like driving it. either way it is a win-win. on daily commutes it is averaging 48 mpg. it is about a 52 mile round trip with about half being 70-75mph highway speeds.

We've seen gas over $4 a gallon here the last couple of summers.
The panic here, is that gas will hit $5 a gallon.
Let's see. 30 gallons for the truck, 35 gallons for the boat, that $375 for a family day of fun. That doesn't even include the launch fees, or anything else that goes with the day.
Just another reason I want to keep my commute short with a new job.
