I remember seeing a realty photographer that was really good. If i remember correctly, they only took photos at night, turned the lights on for a warmer mood, wide angle, ..... anyone remember seeing one one that stood out???

Nice site David!

I saw something either on giz / lifehacker / how to geek on tips for realty photography.

I saw they sometimes purposely stretch the outer areas of the photo to make it appear bigger. Kind of shady but I guess it is what it is.

I did some real estate stuff last weekend for the first time. It was a re-listing, and I replaced the previous person's overdone HDR images. That kind of work is HARD! I have taken plenty of indoor pictures, but trying to cover an entire room with three different light temperatures, lots of contrast, and still maintain accurate color...kudos to those who are good at it. You must have a fantastic camera.

David, very inspirational. Makes me want to clean my house and practice. Very nice work.

I thought I read a recommendation to only include two walls. I noticed in several of your photographs that you included three walls without getting into the fish-eye effect.

Thanks! I don't manipulate the photos by stretching them. However, all real estate photographers use a wide angle lens. This can sometimes make the room appear a little larger than it is. It's kind of like food photography. If you go into McDonalds the pictures on the menu have thick juicy tomatoes and pickles, with shiny buns. When your burger arrives it looks nothing like the photo on the menu. My photos are much more realistic!

My clients typically use these photos for advertising. I try to include as much of a room as possible so that they don't have to post a ton of shots for each property. However, it is much more tricky to keep the walls and edges straight when including three walls. Thank you for the compliment!

Ya, i don't stretch my photos either. Not sure where that came from.
You need to shoot wide if you are going to include the majority of the room, so yes it will look larger than it does in real life.

My biggest pet peeve with architectural photos is verticals that aren't straight. If you don't get it right in camera, fix it in post.

Dennis, you have some great shots. I'm guessing many of them are HDR? If so it's not overdone. There are a lot of people that do HDR for real estate and go way overboard with it.

Thanks!
Yes, I use a lot of HDR and fill light. I just try to even things out but keeping it fairly natural.

It was night ,shot indoors, but the windows were blown out? How's that possible? If it were day that happens all the time. That's why I do HDR. If you go to my page in the link on my first post look at the indoor shots. The windows are not blown out because of the HDR. Some photogs spot meter on the windows and then use lights and strobes where needed indoors. That's another alternative.
