Texas Sky - Photographs of Texas Skies. - 02-09-2006, 05:07 PM

I just picked up at the university library a new book they got and would like to suggest it to this forum. It's _Texas Sky_ by Wyman Meinzer and as the title says it all. It is a 129 pages of spectacular picutures of Texas skies.

I wouldn't go out and buy it but if a library near you has a copy it's worth looking at to see how Meinzer approached his subject. The story of his once in a life time shot of a rainbow framing a lighting bolt is interesting. I do wish he had included a breif section on the equpiment used.

One dissappointment is the poor print quality of the images (UT press had it done in China). Some of them look like they were reticulated.

I'm surprised the image quality wasn't good. He's actually a good photog. He came and spoke at the PPC meeting once, and several people went on an out of town shoot with him. The images I saw were quite good.

I know Wyman and he used Canon F1's and the the EOS 1 system for most all of the pictures and lenses from 16mm and up. He is a great photographer and storyteller. Be looking for a sequel to the book coming out very soon.

Thanks,

Russell

It's not his images. It's the poor quality of the Chinese press work...
