Q: How do you find out the rebuild percentage of a rebuilding Linux software RAID?

A: View the /proc/mdstat file.

Is that off-guard or are you looking for something even more in-depth?

Why should I not hire you?

Tell me about a situation where you seriously screwed up and what you did about it.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

How do you put an elephant in a refrigerator?

Nikon or Canon?

Is this with or without a coconut?

The rumor is Bill Gates likes to ask, "Why are manhole covers round?" And since its gates and not TUX the penguin you will definately throw him/her off.

Truely the better question here is, "tell me of a time you seriously messed something up and how did you handle it, also how did you handle it with management?" I have been asked that at IT jobs as well as other interviews

My favorite question back in the 680x0 days was:

Describe for me what the power on reset steps are when the processor begins to execute code? A: mask interrupts, fetch reset PC and ISP, jump to reset PC.

I used to love the blank stares

For a linux admin... Tell me what distributions you have used, which one you prefer, and why you prefer it?

Or maybe: How do you join a Linux box to a Windows 2003 Active Directory based server?

I had one "smarta$$" who thought he knew everything - so I took him up on it. I asked him to describe to me how the letter you press on the keyboard gets to the display in front of you.

What's great is that we CAN answer that question. Although after the first 15 or 20 minutes I'd get bored.

Let's start with the keyboard controller debounce algorithm...
