I'm up for an iPhone renewal and would like to sell my AT&T iPhone 4, probably on eBay. Does anybody know to completely wipe it clean leaving no personal data on it? Do I need to remove a card/chip?

after you do the reset the phone should be in a state that is requiring setup by connecting to itunes. If thats the case the the phone is just like it came out of the box. If you remove the card and sell it, it wont work unless they put a card in it. To confirm Id call Apple and ask them...

If you have placed any data on the SIM card I would remove it.

Remove the SIM card, use a paper clip, it's on the right side of the phone, poke it, the tray will slide out, keep the SIM card as it will not be any use to the next owner.

Keep your SIm, I recently bought a used phone with sim and when it was unlocked the previous phone number showed up on iTunes.

^^ this. I would keep the sim card. Plus, you never know when you might need one to make an older iphone into an older iPod Touch. :D
agreed... take sim card out.

Thank y'all for the advice, I'll try to get the card out to keep it once the new phone has arrived.
and on a slightly different note (but strangely the same words) if you want to physically "wipe" the iphone clean, if you have ever gotten a microfiber bag with the purchase of sunglasses, you can drop the iphone inside of the bag, and then just rub the bag between both hands vigorously. It will remove all oil and residue from handling, and unless you have scratches, it comes out looking shiny and close to new.
Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!
