I agree with the quote above. It is one of the reasons I love photography. It is a challenge and with the advent of digital, there is always something more to learn. I think I could work a life-time and never be "perfect" in Photoshop and know all there is to know. And, as soon as I did - they would change it, more plug-ins would come out, and there might even be something better that isn't on the horizon now.
Photography allows me to capture a moment in time... see more than my eyes can see.... and put a piece of my sole in that moment to remember for a lifetime. Sometimes, I even get that "perfect" moment where it just could not be any better... It is nice to "capture" that moment forever.... even if it's just for me to remember...

This was a "perfect moment" for me - Photographing and playing with three baby tigers...

Having never really shot with film, it was the technical side of digital photography that initially appealed to me; I love expensive toys, and the more tech/computer-oriented the better. That part of it's still fun, but photography has become much more for me. It's prompted me to learn about and experience new things I never would have otherwise, and given me a new way of looking at the world, and actually seeing things instead of taking them for granted. It's definitely become the creative outlet I was missing and while it can be a real struggle at times it's also a whole lot of fun.

It is difficult to say for sure why I like photography, like it is hard to nail down why I like to create. Maybe it is the same reason: I've always felt we were created to created and to build and it is our nature to want to preserve life as we only get one pass around this merry-go-round. I used to create paintings and drawings and sculptures and everything in between, but I decided to focus on photography for several reasons, not the least of which is that it takes up much less space than sculpting!

The business aspect is different. Being in the photography business is much, much less about photography than about businesss. I think photo skill is probably about #9 in the top ten most important things in running a photography business.

I got cut from the basketball team during tryouts. The coach said I should join the camera club. After that I stayed in it because of creativity, freedom of expression and the emotion that went along with a fine photograph.

Man, I sure do miss the odor of well-mixed fixer. Yeah, I have 6 rolls on my desk waiting for the chems. I love darkroom work and don't ever want to give up film all the way.
