It is number 63 on IMDB's top 250. That is hype. A $40,000,000 budget isnt all that modest.

This movie didnt really do it for me. The only comic book movies I really like are the first Batman and Batman Begins.

Sin City is definitely a fav of mine. I wasn't too familiar with the comics so maybe i'm not biased that way and judged it just on the film.
Crash was probably my favorite for the year, but sin city was right there in my top 5.
And as far as batman is concerned... #1 was the only good one... until this last one came out. It trumps them all. Sorry, Mr. Keaton.

For any movie, 40mm is a nice budget.

The Crow had a budget of $15mm. That is a modest budget.
The Punisher used a 10mm budget.
Blade had a budget of 45mm.
Dick Tracy had a budget of 47mm.

Of course, movies like Spider-Man and the Hulk which rely on a great deal of CGI action are going to have a much bigger budget, but Sin City wasnt like that. It was more character and actor driven than cartoony effects driven, wasnt it? So that would put it inline with character driven movies like Dick Tracy and the Crow.

And how long ago did Dick tracy and the crow come out?

And all that hype came from an internet poll? An internet poll that has this?

BAHAHAHAHA!
Crow was made 10 years ago using 1/4 of the money that Sin City used. Surely you arent suggesting that we have had 400% inflation in the past 10 years.

Ebert's actually my favorite movie reviewer. Not because I agree with him on everything; I have different views from him in many way (particularly political) and will often dislike movies he loves. But when I read one of his reviews, I have a very good idea of whether or not I'll like the movie or not. One cool thing about Ebert is he doesn't think every movie needs to be ground-breaking art to get a good review. He's not above enjoying a good popcorn movie/summer blockbuster, if it's actually a good popcorn movie.
