Yeah I can admit it, I was the last person on planet earth to see Sin City. But since I came home early today and it was on the old TiVo I decided to let my eyeballs do the walking. And now after all this time I can say that I saw Sin City.
And it sucked.
Well let me rephrase that. The movie on its own didn't suck. It was passable as a mild "Glad I didn't have to wait in line to see that" kind of way. It was ok. The story was a bit more than I had expected for a movie but really a bit less than I expected from Frank Miller. It seemed like they set all the tofu bars in hollywood on fire and rounded up ever star that was out in public and had them in this movie. Mickey Rourke? I didn't even know he was still alive. Powers Booth? He'll always be Curly Bill to me. Jessica Alba? Pft.
I guess what made everyone so in awe was the out of the ordinary cinematography and mostly black and white effect they makers used. But in truth there was so much of the post processing coloration that bled it was just moderately effective at best. The acting really was pretty good for what it was. But the music was ... eh. Like I said the story was a bit better than what I expect from most movies but not as good as Miller. But that is easy to forgive since it was a translation.
All in all I wouln't watch it again but it was something to do. Something moderately dissappointing. Now, every punk that I know that told me how AMAZING this movie was owes me a dollar becuase I feel I have been Blair Witched.
And I'm gon'na get my money.
Prophet out.

I didn't care for it much, at all. Very dissappointed. Jessica Alba on the other hand, I would LOVE to look like her in that movie! She is stunning!
Actually, I haven't enjoyed most movies these days. Loved Crash, The Constant Gardner and Hotel Rwanda, but not much else. I haven't seen Munich or Match Point, but they are high on my list.

Yeah, I thought is sucked too. Really, really sucked. And I wasn't even expecting it to be good the previews pretty much spoke for themselves I figured, and yet I was still dissapointed. I rented it with some friends to basicly make fun of it and maybe to see what all the fuss was about. I guess the visual effect was neat for a few minutes, but after that it was just annoying. But I understand its place in trying to convey the feel of a graphic novel.
I thought the acting and dialog were laughable at best. Some of it was so wooden I almost had to check the credits to make sure George Lucas didn't have a hand somewhere in the script. :)
Sorry, just thinking about that movie gets me mad. :)
But hey, if you liked it, whatever floats your boat. Everyone has different tastes.

Ok Prophet everyone has their own tastes.. but Alba? she is and I quote "a goddess".. As for Rourke I thought it was best part, yet. Normally could care less for the guy but I'm looking forward to Sin City 2 and seeing him expand on the role.
I personally thought it was the best conversion of comic book to movie so far. Granted no movie will ever catch the spirit of the written word but Sin City kept the feel of that comic book perfectly I think.
Now if only they can do it this good for The Watchmen..
Anyway I have to give Sin City a thumbs up, hey I liked it enough I went and saw it twice in the theater.

- A Christmas Story
- Casablanca
- Road to Perdition
- The Original Rocky
- The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Those and so many more. But a movie can be entertaining without being "great" or even "good". I have so many movies that I think are good and great. But of them all I can honestly say that I think Ben Hur is probably the best movie ever made on so many levels.
But that isn't to say that I don't like crap as well. Kung Pow. Kung Fu Hustle. Murder by Death. All of these made me smile to no end.
Did I enlighten you enough?

But you have to admit this. In the club when she was dancing she was hot. But in the car when she was driving Willis to the motel and she was talking to him with her coat on the angle they shot her from made her face look pudgy and unattractive. You almost have to work extra hard to make a woman that lean look like she has a pudgy face.

Yeah Alba is cute and all (doesn't really do it for me though) but she makes it painfully obvious that looks do not automaticly equal to acting talent.

Anywho, I think that my favorite comic book movie was Hellboy. But the original Batman is a close second. Got to love Jack Nicholson as the Joker. But I also enjoyed this recent Batman, but mostly because I think that Christian Bale was the best Batman to date.
