They sent the wrong lens. :( - 03-08-2006, 05:12 PM

Some venting follows...

So I have a big shoot next weekend in Vegas. My first problem was I waited too long to find batteries for my D200. Everyone is SOLD out. I finally find my batteries at Abes of Maine. (They weren't the cheap version either. They were the quick charge ones which are about 25 dollars more per battery.) Nonetheless I ponied up the money because it's my fault I waited too long and I need them.

I ordered 3 of them and a new grip. My sales girl asks if there was anything else I wanted and I decided on a whim....okay... I'll buy my 10.5 mm 2.8 fisheye from them too... it's in stock and it's about the same price as B&H (whom I usually order from). I had planned on ordering it after I hung up with Abes. But NOOOOO stupid me... I thought I'll just get it all done with in one swoop. So, I pay for fancy two day shipping (which they charge WAY too much on BTW).... and I'm anxiously awaiting my new baby and toys.

Long story longer....

I get it today and it's NOT a 10.5mm it's a 105 mm 2.8!! I'm not a happy girl. So I call and they're shipping a new one next day. I've shipped theirs back. Of course they billed my CC again and now I have to wait for them to credit me back. I also insisted they pay the return shipping fees which I had to pony up and fax them a receipt. I must say so far they've been nice about it. I did get a shipping confirmation that it's coming tomorrow so hopefully things will turn out okay. I'm just really bummed.

Everything about this trip has turned out to be a hassle. I was so excited about going and now I'm feeling worried. I want that excited feeling back!! Hopefully it will all turn out well.

If you got this far thanks for reading! :)

Let me know of some good spots to shoot when you get back. I'll be there mid April and am also very excited about going. Everything will work out fine. Have a blast!

Have fun!! Its sounds like it will all work out fine so sit back relax and wait for the trip to start. Glad to hear they are so cooperative, usually all we hear about are the ones that screw up and blame you... good to know there are some businesses that still bleive the customer is right.

You will be OK. My reaction would be the same, actually.

I have problems when it is too late to fix them. You have plenty of time. If need be, you can probably rent what you need in Dallas or Houson, but you're a week and one-half away, which to me is like light-years. Huger than the human mind can comprehend.

Have a great trip.

That is one reason I do not like to buy on line. I like it in my hand, but I did buy my last lens from Camera Box, a Tokina 12-24mm F4. Like you I waited until the last day, I got it four days before I left for Moab, Utah. This time things worked out fine.
Good luck on your Vagas trip.

Think about it as an omen. It's just a decimal point error. Kind of like the difference between you winning $105.00 vs. $10.50. Just add a few more zeros and you'll be set.

Everything works out in the end. Have fun and knock 'em dead with your work!

Once you're there enjoying your trip, all of this will pale in comparison.

Don't know if that helps, but it's the best I can come up with at the moment.
