JANETG .....BARELY HOLDING HER TEMPER | That is nuts!! Yeah, my daughter needs a note from the doctor just to take Tylenol for her migraines!! No, couldn't just be a note from me, but from the doctor! I can't believe that for Nasonex, but I could see that happening at my daughter's school, if they ever felt the need. Since it's private, they don't really have the dogs come in sniffing around, but they haven't had a reason yet! The worse thing they do at school is use cell phones! | | | |

janetg | Sorry to ask a stupid question, How is it dangerous? http://www.nasonex.com/nasx/applicat...ent_input=faqs
Q. Is NASONEX® safe?
A. NASONEX® is safe when used as directed. NASONEX® won't keep you awake or put you to sleep, and it is not addictive. Nasal steroids should not be confused with anabolic steroids, which are sometimes misused by athletes to enlarge muscle mass and can have serious side effects.
Side effects with NASONEX® were generally mild and included headache, viral infection, sore throat, nosebleeds, and coughing. | | | |

Don't you just love it when a staunch school policy overrides all common sense. | | | |

I won't make political statements that will get this thread closed. But suffice it to say that 0 tolerance is the most base attempt by those who think they know best to suppliment the growing lack of common sense in our society.
A horribly misguided attempt. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Prophet out.

If they pass over one controlled substance in favor of another, they open themselves up to discrimination suits, so the school's best bet is to treat all prescription medicines the same. It is for the protection of the students.
Janet - sorry to hear your daughter got caught up in all this, but once you have the prescription sent in, all this will pass over. | | | |

Oh man, that stuff IS dangerous. Why you could accidentally squirt it in your eyeball and blind yourself for life, or jam it up your nose so hard you bleed to death. If it accidentally got into the cafeteria food, it could seriously harm all those who eat it. If it gets thrown hard, it might bruise or cut someone's face. You could always trip over it and bash your head in. It's a round little plastic bottle and you could always step on it and have your foot roll out from under you, and then bonk goes your head!
Not to mention the overdose potential! You could squirt it too many times and get high or something. Or you could have a bad reaction and start slicing up fellow students.
Yeh, it's best to leave that stuff at home. Waaaaaay to dangerous to have out in public, especially schools.
-----------------------------------------------
This kinda stuff is beyond ridiculous, and worst of all, good people (like Jane and her daughter) are stuck dealing with it. What a load of b.s.!!! | | | |

1.have you ever seen a student take to much nyquil to get "drunk"? I HAVE.
2. Have you ever seen a student take Bendryl to get that drowsy downer feel? I HAVE.
3.Ever see a student "huff" a marker to get dizzy? I HAVE.
4.Has anyone seen a student get an alergic reaction from tylenol? I HAVE.
5.Ever seen someone take tylenol from a friend and then realize it was something else entirely? I HAVE.
the fact of the matter is even though we associate these drugs and common items as harmless BUT put in the wrong situation can have disasterous effects on all people involved. that having been said a zero tolerance policy is there to protect a student not harm a student ... what would you rather have???? a healthy kid with a suspension???? or a kid in a hospital??? i know these are extreme measures but think of the schools "common sense" in this situation. legalities and liabilities of the school can spiral out of control. so there are two sides to every situation. and if they have a prescription why worry??????? i wouldnt.
