NEW YORK (AP) - A couple who claim they were bitten by bedbugs while staying at a Catskills resort in July returned for another stay later that month, according to the hotel's lawyer.
But Leslie Fox says she went back to the Nevele Hotel because her husband, Stephen Cohen, was under contract to give a lecture and she wanted to go with him.
"I was absolutely loath to have to go back there, and I went back with great apprehension," Fox said Wednesday.
Joseph O'Connor, a lawyer for the resort, didn't buy the explanation.
"I think he probably could have done it without her," he told the Daily News.
Fox and Cohen sued the resort for $20 million on Tuesday, saying her body and mind were scarred after she suffered some 500 bedbug bites at the 700-room hotel.
Fox's lawyer, Alan J. Schnurman, said Tuesday that when the couple reported to hotel officials that their room was infested, the officials offered two free nights but Fox and Cohen declined because they just wanted to leave.
O'Connor said the couple stayed at the hotel again from July 24 to July 29.
"The claim for a $20 million injury is not substantiated by her willingness to stay in the same section of the hotel two weeks later," he said. O'Connor said the hotel denies any liability and is conducting a full investigation.

Wow, I've had tons of bed bug bites in Haiti, but I never looked THAt bad. Usually, they are tiny red spots.

Bed Bug control is a major problem in hotels right now. Since DDT can't be used anymore and the buggers are tough to kill once they get settled in there are more and more cases of them showing up. I've heard that some hotels have closed off whole sections/floors for a couple days to run fumigation actions to try to rid them and we are talking 3/4/ and even 5 star hotels with this problem!
IT would really seam that once you had a couple bites start acting up you would wake up and get out of bed to see what is going on.
One nice thing about CAMPING is no BED BUGS!

I live in Hotels and Corp Apartments, I have only ran in to bed bugs once. But it took several weeks in that hotel room to figure it out.
I now know what to look for now and check every room/bed I use now.
If you spend time in motels do a google seach for bed bugs and learn where to look for them. It's quick and easy, I check EVERY room now when I first walk in. Due to them being VERY hard to kill you do not want to transport them back to your home.

Yeah, we would spray our beds down and everything in Haiti, but you could feel them and sometimes see them...some were just normal size bugs in the bed...yuk!! The bites weren't itchy, but they look like you have the measles or something. Never had that problem in the US.

I think she was "mentally scarred" LONG before this . . .
Oh honey, let's go back and stay for a week where I was horribly bitten and scarred for life . . .
LOL . . . they are just playing the LAWSUIT LOTTERY! If you can't win the real lottery, file a lawsuit instead!
