Congrats on the new ride! We traded the wife's 99 Taurus in last weekend for a new Ford Escape. She decided she had driven enough 4-door sedans for a while and wanted something fun for a change (now that the kids are gone!). So far, so good... she's loving it. But it doesn't get 30 mpg...

Congrats! I think? I know what your talking about when you say you hate the car, kind of. Several months ago I swap in my 4x4 Excursion for a jeep liberty. Talk about a big change! A quarter the size but over twice the gas millage. The jeep is getting close to 24mpg on the hwy and is kind of fun to drive since it's like driving a go cart. The Excursion got 8mpg but was the biggest thing on the road except for semi's , it could also just about haul the liberty in the back if I removed the tird row seat and folded the others down . I felt safer in the Excursion and if I wanted to take a group of friends with me 7 people could ride very comfortably or could pull an 18ft trailer with 6 atv's and never know it was back there. The jeep on the other hand can haul 4 people or pull a trailer with two dirt bikes. I also worry about being ran over by a 4x4 Excursion in the jeep, be kinda like a speed bump for them! With fuel prices today I can't blame you for swaping though, same reason for me. I think I'll keep feeding the little liberty and hope one day it will grow up

I can't trade in my exploder for nothing ...My gas bills are more than my car payment each month. I would be Way upside down...I am not a car person...I like to sit up high and see whats going on. I just drive way too bad to drive a car!

I had an 2001 Jeep Liberty 4X4 and was getting terrible gas milage. I traded it in after like 8 months, it would only get 240 miles to a tank (18 gallons). So now I drive a 2005 Dodge Neon that gets 360 miles to a tank of gas (12.5 gallons). Not the car I wanted but the Jeep didn't have a high trade in value so I got the Neon with the employee pricing program. So it worked out good........I guess.

I've gone 645 miles on one tank before......on 34.3 gallons, 18.8 mpg.

But I get 16 in day to day traffic in my truck, and it's killing me since I drive at least 65 miles a day, 5 days a week.

We're looking at trading the truck on a Saab 9-3, if they can give enough for trade in.

yah - that was our concern too - for one thing, it's hard to decide if people are going to give you adequate trade in for the gas hog -

on the other hand, my hubby says gas will get to 3 a gallon over the summer.

well My 05 armada get about 330 miles to a tank. tank holds 25 gallons. Not too bad for a 6500 lb beast! But it is only 2WD.

I'm too upside down to trade in as well but like others I have thought about it, I have a 15 gallon tank and get if lucky 220 miles a tank on premium gas. That's what happens when you have a high performance car though. I sure would like to park in the garage and drive an econo box!

Janet, congrats on the new car!

As soon as my medical bills are payed off I'm going to get back into an Excursion. I even had to sell my bike to help pay them down, hospitals charge way to much! I'm just glad I have insurance. When I went to get rid of my Excursion no adults wanted it because of the lift kit and large tires and none of the parents would buy it for their kids that wanted it. I finally traded it in but had to convince the dealer to take it as a trade-in. He told me flat out he didn't want it because he would have a hard time selling it. It sat on his lot for about two months and he finally took it to auctions. The 8mpg was horrible but I drive a company truck most of the time and sometimes my Excursion would set in the garage for three weeks without being driven. I actually had to remeber to take it out every now and then because the tires would get flat spots setting that long and the whole thing would bounce going down the road until the tires heated up. I guess 8mpg isn't to bad for a 10,000lb vehicle with 38" tires and 5:14 gears? I wonder how high I can lift the little liberty?
