I know a couple of the venues there, specifically the Austin Music Hall, are hard to get cameras into but the rest are pretty good on allowing photos.
If the budget had allowed it I would have been down there but the budget said no this year, well there is always next year!

During SXSW they are normally very tight at most venues about cameras.

Last year I was told to stop taking pictures at a show in a hotel conference room/ball room. But Antone's (Pam Tillis) on the other hand was no problem at all.

At La Zona Rosa they were virtually strip searching people before the Elvis Costello show.

Last one I made was about 5 years ago and they were not too tight on cameras then except at the Austin Music Hall. I guess you now have to buy a "photojournalist badge" to get a camera into the venues. I bet those suckers run several hundred bucks!

I noticed that there are several non-SxSW shows going on in Austin this week also, one is like 6 clubs and a street stage that tends to be more Metal in music style while a couple other clubs over on Red River are doing multiple night shows.

Of course with acts like Elvis Costello they will tromp down on the shooters but with a lot of the other unknown acts I don't think that they will be that strict.

I think I'm going to go and see Norah Jones on Friday at the free gig. I'm sure that one won't be busy (!)

Doubt I can take a camera in there though - they were setting up fences when I ran past this morning.

See my post (can't remember where!) on the ESL party. Sure wish I could be there - heck with a camera! Thievery Corporation is a very innovative and trend setting "band".

I wouldn't expect them to be too tight on cameras at the outdoor stage though.

I normally try to avoid the hassle that is SXSW, parking and crowds oh my.. but I'm being tempted this year to hop on the bike and head out. Thursday Opie Hendrix is playing and I like him and want to support his being there. Even better St Paddy's day Shoulders is playing at both Opal Devines from what I've heard. That in and of itself is enough reason to drive to Austin. Shoulders only play once a year for the last few years, so any chance to catch them I do my damndest to get there.
Also an interesting band I shot a few months back is playing La Zona Rosa, called Morningwood. They put on quite a show.
OK-Go is playing friday
Stan Ridgway is also playing.

Actually the more I know who's playing where and when the more I realize I'd be running around like a headless chicken, just trying to catch bands that I'm friends with. And no way I could even begin to see every band I want to see.
