Double Sided Printing - 04-03-2006, 12:38 AM

I am trying to figure out a way to make a double sided print for a friend of mine. He has asked me to make some ID badges for his busniess and wants info on the front and back. I have never done this before so I am asking for help on a place that might be able to print for me like this. He would also like them to be thinker then just a piece of paper as these ID badges will be worn at all times.

This area is new to me - anyone ever done any type of work like this before and can give me some pointers. I am just about done expect with this printing problem. Thanks.

I've never done this, but the company I worked for did their own. Over the years they did it several ways. One way they did it was to laminate over the two photos sanwiched with a larger(than the photos) transparent piece of plastic in the middle. After 911, they went to magnetic badges with a thicker white plastic piece in the middle which held the programable magnetic info. The photos were on a computer and outputed to a devise which printed and put the badge together. If you were going to do a lot of these for a long time, might want try and buy this system or output devise. Here is one I found with Google.

Here is another that can do them for $.35 each.

Here is one that list a lot of different companies for ID badges.

I can't recommend any of them b/c I've never used them. Hope this helps.

If you are looking for a durable and permanent solution then I think you should go with something like Norm is suggesting.

However if you are looking for a lower cost and not so permanent solution there are a few ideas that I have used in the past. First of all you can create your graphic file and print it side by side on a piece of semi-gloss or matte photo paper. This is thicker than normal copy or printer paper and gives a better quality. But take note, when you cut this out leave the mid-line uncut. You will FOLD the id to be double sided. Trying to laminate two pieces of photo paper is not a wise move because it rarely works unless you have HUGE border of laminate around the edge.

If you want you can also use double sided photo paper. I haven't used the Epson but right off the top of my head I can't remember the brand I used. I know they sell it at Camera Co-Op. But you will get a much better lamination with a single sheet.

As for laminating you can take them to Kinkos and let them do it or you can do it yourself. If you do it yourself be sure to send the pouches through the machine at least twice. If you have laminator save your self the time of cutting by using these.

Well those are my tips. Hope something helps.

Prophet out.
