I-10 & Hwy 6 - 04-07-2006, 08:50 AM

You know, I normally take the Beltway down to 59 and then hook it on over to Sugar Land. Every frick'n day. But that is neither here nor there. Today I took 6 heading south and I went through the 10 & 6 intersection.

MY GOD! I can't believe how much that has changed. They raised that road like 15 or 20 feet! The Awful House there used to be perched on a Sams Club cliff so you could overlook the little people as you poisoned yourself. Not any more. That is street level now baby.

It's just nuts, I could hardly believe how open and sunny it all was. I mean the old intersection was low and dark and full of hobos. It was kind of like the Tunnel of Horrors ride at a carnival. Except, you know with hobos.

Of course if you go just down the road to I-10 and Fry you can be amazed at how they completely removed that overpass. I can't even begin to imagine how much it cost to haul away that much spoil or where it went.

Road construction to me is like the pyramids. Big. Expensive. And impressive.

Prophet out.

My mother in-law lives in Katy, and each time we go out there something has changed.

I guess they take dirt from one location to another. They are working on 610 infront of my office and we watch it change every day. I could stand and stare out the window in amazement all day long watching the heavy machinery dig holes, dump dirt and push dirt around. trucks keep rolling in here full of dirt, dumping it off and then coming back with more. I guess a lot of it comes from where they already did work at.

some times we fell like that new doritios commercial.

Hey - Don't call it an Awful House!
Their Texas Cheesesteak Sammich with Double (or triple) Hashbrowns is a wonder of culinary delight.

Dang, I almost feel like eating one today.

I wish they'd hurry up on I-10 so we wouldn't have those no acceleration lane "merges". Today on my way to Costco I was sandwiched between an 18-wheeler and the car to my left. I guess I am supposed to hit my brakes and risk being rear-ended so I don't get knocked over by the 18-wheelers who don't care. Too bad, this one didn't have a "How's my driving?" sticker.

When they "finish" I10, it will time to tear apart 290 - you every try to go anywhere "west" on 290 anytime after 3:00PM? Just imagine that once it gets tore up. You'll have to buy 2 lunches, one for lunch and one for the trip home in the dark. Then you'll have to have breakfast, gas up the ride and head in-bound again. I suppose you can get some sleep in the backup..... Or at your desk... Or on the weekends....

I'm pretty sure they used the old overpass pieces to make the new "Hi-5" in Dallas at 635 and 75.

I live in Katy now and my wife grew up in Katy. I'm amazed at how much it is changing. They are making progress in a hurry. Those people seem to never stop working. I have seen them at all hours of the night and Saturdays and Sundays.

In most cases, if they finish ahead of schedule they all get a big fat bonus. :) Hey, i'm okay with that.
