I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

It'll be interesting to see if it's made.

There has been a lot of hype and mystery concerning this camera with a lot of guerilla style marketing before NAB.

Then they showed up with nothing but a metal frame and picture of a lens.

I guess we'll see. Supposedly some super billionaire is funding the project, so it may just happen...

As video continues to grow it's quality it won't to far down the road where it will overtake a large portion of the still photography work. Already the frame grabs are being used routinely on news websites. The PJ's will be carrying all video shortly and just shooting back a frame they like or as wifi expands they will easily be able to upload higher quality chunks of video for the guys in the control room to grab from.

And think about wedding or sports work. Who care about perfect timing, keep the box running and pick the frame to use as the portrait. It's coming.....

So Jim, when can I come over and again see that cool little video gadget you showed us at the workshop?

agree with Pete, I think as soon as cameras like this will become widley available and peices will drop below 10,000...we can start thinking about say good buy to still photography in close future after its happens.

I actually sold my Stedicam Merlin. It was so awesome, and I really loved the thing, but when it comes down to it, I just don't have the time to use it properly.

Almost always when I'm shooting video, I'm also shooting stills. Using the Stedicam takes 100% of your focus. So instead I do mostly tripod video, and run and gun still work.

The consumer level HD camcorder by Sony are AMAZING! It's unbelieable the amount of quality you get from these onto to Mini-DV. It's way better than anything being piped into your house through Cable or Satellite in 1080(i). Except for HD Net. I don't know what HD Net does, but their footage doesn't look compressed at all, but you can see obvious MPEG artifacts while watching CSI or something similar.

Watching the 1080i footage right out of my A1U is incredible. Love it, love it, love it!!!!!

This short clip is compressed from 25mbps MPEG2 1080 lines of resolution to approx 2mbps WMV 720 lines of resolution. Even in it's compressed form, the amount of detail still amazes me. Seeing it full res on a 62" display is sweet!
