Deployment - 05-11-2006, 09:51 AM

My son is in the Air Force and he found out last weekl he is being deployed the end of this month to the Middle East. He will be there about three months which is not very long but the time could be extended. We both knew this would come but still puts a big knot in my stomach.

I am going up this weekend to spend time with him before he leaves. He has the weekend planned for us and will be doing lots of "tourist" type things.

No matter the age of our children, we don't want them in harms way so please keep all of our military in your prayers.

Sorry to that. I will say a prayer for your son to keep him safe!

Debby,
Will keep him in our prayers. Will also keep you in prayers too for comfort.
We spent some time in Feb. with some Air Force personel in Germany who have been on several deployments there. They were feeling that they were helping out, as most also worked where they could with the local population, especially the children.

I am sure he will be safe. Airforce is usually the part of the military that does not see actual combat. My brother went over there, and he spent 3 months in a tent/hanger playing videogames.

These are certainly trying times for our great country. May your son return safe and sound, as I am sure he will. I am sure you are very proud. It is a scary time, but everyone should be proud of our military men and women that protect our freedoms. Theirs is a tough job, one that everyone should appreciate.

When your son gets over there, please let us know if he needs anything such as snacks, underclothing, toiletries, etc. I'm sure the members of this forum would be more than happy to help out. I have done this elsewhere and have found that it boosts the morale of those serving our country by leaps and bounds!!

My son is a "Boomer" and guides the boom to the plane below for refueling. This is done in the air. My Sunday School teacher is retired from the Air Force and was a fighter pilot. He told me right after my son joined that it is very very rare to have a plane refueled in the midst of a battle. That was comforting to hear.

The trip this weekend was postponed due to a mission he has to go on.....so hoping to go up the following weekend.

Thanks Jeff.........Should I hear of any needs, I will pass that along.

Boomers are in a risky enough business. But, they are very well trained and know their business. I always wondered what kind of job a boomer would get into once they are out of the service ??? Laying on your stomach at 30,000 ft., flying a pipe out to an f-16 at 300 mph ???? He will be OK...

Edit: I've seen his pictures, and think he might like photography... same kind of stress !!!
