Oh ... My ... God .... - 06-14-2006, 07:49 AM

Someone hold me. I'm scared.

The other day I saw something that I have NEVER before in all my born years seen. A McDonalds that was closed and being torn down.

Seriously. I mean I have seen the closed temporarily. Or overnight. But they always open back up. But this joint is CLOSED! I have never ever ever seen a McDonalds go out of business. Sure I have seen other places close and go out of business. I mean that is like the sun taking a vacation or something. Or a corner without a Starbucks.

I just assumed that they would keep building those little pagoda looking hamburger shacks until every square inch of the planet was covered with red rooftops.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Prophet out.

Well MOST Mickey D's are Franchises and I bet the guys lease on the land ran out so they are tearing it down, look around the neighborhood and expect to find a new one or they may rebuild on the location if the lease didn't run out. Sometimes it is cheaper to tear down and rebuild than to remodel.

Used to be a few of the old style ones out there but most of them have been remodeled or torn down over the years. http://www.route-66.com/mcdonalds/history.htm pictures of the locations with the arches on each end of the building about half way down the site.

Heck there are all sorts of Wally World locations that are empty across rural america as they switch many locations to Super Centers which means new buildings. (Many times Wally World will not even attempt to rent out the old locations just happy to set on the empty buildings paying rent until their leases run out). Saw an ad on TV about how shopping at Wally World can save you gas! Low Prices and Saves you Gas to Boot!

I don't know about tearing down, but there are McD's that aren't McD's anymore all over the place....

Saves you gas but also raises the price of gas.

Well, it isn't like we wouldn't do well with less McDs. Every time I look at one those stores, I see a big pile of lard instead of a restaurant that serves really good-for-you food. Of course I'm pretty much a fitness nut anyway.

I saw one on Kuykendahl just south of 1960 that closed a while back. Not sure if it is because they are widing the road or just slow business.

There's one right down the road from me. The building sits at Airport Freeway and Brown Trail in Hurst. It's been abandoned for several years so I don't know why they don't just tear it down. It's a real eyesore.

As for McD, read the poem "Ozymandias" by Shelley at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozymandias and get for free the whole Wikipedia experience on the demise of the high and mighty.

And JohnT, the new book, "Real Food" by Nina Planck tells you why genuine farm lard would be better than what fast food joints and most restaurants use. Lots of dissing industrial food.
