Rokin River Inn B&B, in Centerpoint, it's just above the river, with paths to walk down to it. A nice place to rest and relax. http://www.rockinriverinn.com/
Scenic areas abound in the hill country. Scenic areas for photo ops all along 337 from Medina to Camp Wood. I believe it's Hwy 27 out of Kervile follows the river with some great scenery, also as someone posted here recently, Stonehenge replica at Hunt. http://www.texasescapes.com/TRIPS/TexasScenicDrives.htm | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. Enchanted Rock is about 25 miles north of F'berg, about half way to Llano. Easy to kill a day there. Take water! E Rock was very dry between Christmas and New Years last year. It looked like this then | | | |

Guess you could say "bump" on this. Wanted to get it back up for any weekenders to give their input. So far we are liking the Utopia place but want to get everyone's best spots so I can choose. You guys are way better than Texas travel websites.
Thanks

Gruene is always nice - we've stayed at the B&B at the top of the hill.
And it's close to New Brauns and Canyon Lake.

I'll throw in another vote for Bandera County (Bandera, Medina, Vanderpool, Utopia's just outside the edge on the west side). I live in Tarpley, near Bandera, and work at the newspaper in Bandera.
You can take in a lot all within a half hour of Bandera; rafting/tubing/fishing on the Medina River (they just recently restocked the trout, too), boating and dining on Medina Lake, the apple orchards in Medina, several country music venues in Bandera (11th Street Cowboy Bar, The Cabaret Dancehall, Blue Gene's) with live music Wed-Sun., the Frontier Times Museum in Bandera, rodeos at the Twin Elm and Lightning Ranches Tuesdays/Fridays/Saturdays, bed and breakfasts on the river throughout the county, etc., etc.
If you do stay in Utopia, you're less than an hour from Medina/Bandera, and you're closer to Garner State Park, Lost Maples, the lovely Vanderpool/Sabinal loop (considered one of the most beautiful drives in the country), and so on.
Wherever you go, take lots of pictures, and if you head this way, feel free to give me a hollar if there's any place you want to know about.

There are lots of cool hill country places. All the above suggested destinations sound like fun.
I do not know if this will help you and maybe you have already seen similar websites anyway.... http://www.hill-country-visitor.com/

I can't believe nobody mentioned Lukenbach... It doesn't get much more laid back than that. And it's close to Fredericksburg. You said fishing... you mean the kind that live in water? the rivers were pretty low when I went thru the area a week or so ago. But... there's probably somewhere around there that has fish.
