texas insurance law - 06-16-2006, 11:07 PM

does anyone know anything about texas insurance law?

My little commuter car was hit last week and the guy from the insurance company says it's total loss. I have been told by the insurance company that i cant get the car registered by the state if the price to fix the car is more than the actual price of the car.

I have been looking and looking from txdot to insurance board but have not found anything about that .I have found a lot about getting a salvage title but nothing about getting it registered.

anyone out that know anything about this let me know. I need to know by mon, I am going to war with Farmers. I need ammo for the battle. I just want my car fixed. the engine is in perfect condition the only thing that is wrong with the car is the damage from the wreck and some old hail damage. the insurance company wants to give me 1100 for the car. No way is that a fair market value for that car. even with the hail damage it's worth 2200 and if the damage on the car is 1400 than i should be get that minus the salage and from what i have read i can get a salvage title and I am good to go.

Salvage title - 06-17-2006, 07:32 AM

I see people with these all the time. it all depends on whether you want the hassle of getting it fixed. FWIW, salvage title=no resale value.

so the answer is no, you can get a title on just about anything and get your sticker to drive on the public highways. you might have to work a little at it but you can get a new title.

thanks.

Rules, regulations, and the interpretations of them change. Check with the Texas Department of Transportation at http://www.dot.state.tx.us/vtr/vtrreginfo.htm and at (800) 558-9368.

No you can still get the car registered even if it's a totaled vehicle. However, the title will show that it is a total loss. Thus, you can't get "full coverage" on your auto policy for that vehicle.

The most the insurance company will pay is the "actual cash value" of the vehicle. They use multiple sources to try to gather that value. Where did you get the value of 2200 with the hail damage? I would try and give that info to the insurance adjuster. Let me know if you have any other questions

I wrecked a car and it was totalled. Basically, it means that the insurance will only give you x dollars and take your car. But they will sell your car back to you. So for $45, I bought my car back and repaired it with the money they gave me.

3400 in excellent and fair condition is 2200. my car was excellent before the hail damage after that its fair. Thus the hail damage was taken off all ready. so the car is worth 2200.

well the fight is over. I just dont get it they fought for two weeks over 300 dollars. Storage on the car is over 300 and my rent car bill is over 300...

so it's going to cost me 200 dollars out of my pocket to fix my car. I brought up the price from 1100 to 1290.

You might think. Was 200 dollars worth all this trouble? The answer. Yes. Sometimes you have to take a stand. We all have lines in the sand and this one line that I didnt have a choice but to defend. I could have gone the "I am Hurt " route but that wouldnt be right either.

I know can take my time and look for a new car. I am thinking the S80 or Cross Crounty Volvo. I might even take a look at the new Buick or the Morono. I would love to have the Volvo SUV but that's a little out of my price range. I just can't spend close to a third of my house for a car.

I will be driving my free rent car to Kerrville for the TPPA workshops this weekend. How sweet is that deal. I dont have to drive my truck to Kerville...

I am just glad this all over now i can get some work done.
