OMG....My car almost died in the flood!!!! - 06-19-2006, 06:54 AM

I left for work this morning at 6:15am and only got 4 blocks (still in my neighborhood located at Champions Forest Dr & FM 1960) from my house and the flooding was horrible. It was still dark outside, so I could not properly judge the flooded strreets (again...still in my neighborhood). I assumed everything was ok, since our neighborhood has not flooded in the past 6 years we've lived here. BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

My car nearly stalled twice in the high waters, once trying to leave then again trying to return home. Thank God I made it home OK. I see on TV that some travelers werem't so lucky.

I hope you guys stay safe and dry!

I didn't even try to leave today, by the time I got up (slept in later than usual because I'm supposed to be in a training course this week) my street was already flooded, water level is over the curb but not yet to the sidewalk. Here on the NW side of town it looks an awful lot like when Allison stalled over us, though fortunately this one apparently isn't going to last as long.

Glad to know you made it back ok Sonny, I was watching the reports on the news this morning, they were naming all of the Bayous that had gone over their banks already, and the system is only moving at about 5 mph...I wondered how my fellow forum guys in Houston were doing...it looks like it's headed straight for the northern part of my county (Brazoria). I hear they've already closed a lot of schools up there, I hope everyone and their kids are doig okay and staying dry!

Sorry to hear you guys are up to your ears in water. We wouldn't mind if you send the extra up our way... Please.

Plano started once a week watering restrictions today. The last set of storms just missed us to the south and no rain in sight on the forcasts

NW Houston is getting hit pretty hard, the bayou that passes my neighborhood has never come out of its banks since my development was built 18 years according to my neighbor, but its less than 1' from the banks and still rising. Luckily they developers had some common sense and raised the grade 5' above the banks of the bayou before building. Downtown where I am now, Buffalo Bayou will be flooding at the very least the I-10 underpass here shortly .. it had 3" of water already when I came in 15 minutes ago.

Thanks guys!

I just saw on the news that Houston area has already had about 10 inches. WOW!
Sounds like everyone will be trading in your vehicles for boats.
Stay dry and send that thing to the west towards SA!
I think Houston has had enough for awhile.

I was crazy enough to leave a warm bed and digital cable to get out in the mess and between 290/Barker cypress and Beltway and Richmond, it was fine until I got here.....If I had only waited 10 minutes I could have stayed home

Has anyone taken any photos of the flood yet? The only flooding around here is flash floods, not the lake-in-your-backyard flood (unless the lakes flood).

Hope everyone stays safe and dry.

Wow, I wish we had gotten that much rain! I think the next time we get a ton of rain I'm taking the jeep and the tow strap out to pull people out of the muck. I think I was on the news in Dallas earlier this year driving through some heavy flooding. I dont really get too concerned until it hits hood height, although I've been stuck in a river with it over the hood and it kept running...but it did soak the air filter something nasty.

Wow! I hadn't looked at radar this AM, but leaving H-town after the Astros game Sunday, watched a large thunderstorm lightning display halfway to Austin just west of Harris County. Saw one photog parked along the road already folding his tripod, and I judged from the bugs hitting the windshield, that the reason he quit was mosquitos and not lack of more memory card! Did not know the rain came back ya'lls way!
