Backed into a corner in 60 seconds - 07-10-2006, 10:51 PM

Just wondering how many other guys have been in a similar situation.

My wife bought some new clothes. Before we go out that evening she trys on the blue dress and ask what I think. I said it looked great. She tried on the red dress and asked me which one I thought looked best. I told her I thought they both looked equally great. I genuinely did not see that one looked better than the other and was ready for here to decide and end the conversation. She persisted in asking which one l liked best so I said that I liked the blue dress.

Instead of being satisfied with my response she responded with "What! You don't think I look good in red".....sheeeesshh!!!....I felt like I just started a chess game and was check-mated in 3 moves...traped, ... no where to go...a man on an island....... I finally said, No, I like both of them, I just think the blue looks little better. Now, she has put me into a position to where I am saying things that are not true. As I said I earlier I thought both looked equally well but I am just trying to escape this no-win situation I am in. I think I finally just changed the subject.

Not really complaining. She is great and makes life pretty interesting for a laid back dude like myself. Just wondering if anyone else has been put into a situation with female where you sometimes no answer may be the best answer.

"sweetheart, you look good in anything your wear. In fact, why don't you just get out of that dress and we can fool around for an hour or so." In my marriages (and I've had two, so I am an obvious expert), this would stop the conversation immediately, and she would be dressed and ready in a flash........with no more questions,,,,,,,,,LOL

Repeat after me...

"I really like both of them, but as beautiful as that red dress is on you, I think I prefer the blue because it really accentuates/brings out your _____ (eyes, hair, boobs, whatever...)." We love to know what it is you love about us.

Or Tom's idea. Whichever works. ;)

plus with my plan, if she gets out of the dress, you've got an hour of fun that you never planned.

I'd say go with Tom's idea! Body language works best anyway.

My boss (the attorney) always takes the 5th with his wife. If you never comment your statements can never be used against you! :)

I pretend I didn't hear her over the TV and do the "What was that dear?"-while-never-taking-my-eyes-off-the-screen thing. Then she just sighs and chooses something.

With my wife, it always starts out like, "can I ask you a question?". Then, I know what's coming next - one of those questions a husband (or any man) should NEVER be forced to answer:

Do I look fat?
Does this _______ make me look fat?
Do you think I've lost weight?
Is she prettier than I am? (referring to other female, e.g. on TV)
Do you think she's pretty?
Do you like my body?

So, after 8 years of marriage, when that first question comes ("can I ask you a question"), I immediately shout, "NO!", and leave the room. Case closed. End of story. No more talk

Geesshhhh... women... can't live with 'em, can't bury them in the backyard
