PPA spam BS - 07-11-2006, 12:09 PM

Anyone else getting slammed with emails??? There seems to be at least 50 other fotogs (prolly more) that are complaining about spam in my inbox right now. Kinda annoying because people keep Replying All, stating they are not interested, remove me, If you spam my client I'll personally kill you etc etc..... I think they are tracing back to PPA. I guess they got my email when I signed up to go to go to ImagingUSA back in Jan.

Annoyed!

Yep, I got slammed this morning. I created a rule in Outlook that automatically deletes messages from the offending email address.

Just got this from the PPA

(this is only part of the message)

We are currently investigating the sudden burst of spam from ephotowizards.com. That company, located in Malaysia, registered as an exhibitor at Sepcon/Imaging USA 2006. They purchased a "list use" of attendees to contact them after the show. We have a signed contract with them regarding terms of use for the list, and judging from the email that I have seen, I suspect that one of their computers with the email list on it has been "hijacked" by a email worm or virus that is currently delivering the spam message.

I cannot for the life of me EVER support PPA for doing what they did - selling our email addresses to spammers. I don't care what their explanation is - it seems like every day I'm deleting something from them. If I was interested in what a single vendor was selling, I allowed them to scan my badge. That's how it should work.

I'll not be attending the next PPA event in San Antonio.

I'm so tired of deleting "Fun on the Farm with Barnes" emails........

If I ever wanted to incorporate fake plastic squirrels or plastic raccoons or a grey rabbit into my photographs, I sure as hell won't be buying them from them........

is anyone a member of texas ppa? they do something much worse...

they have all of their members info available online to the general public... I'm talking full names, home addy, email addresses and phone numbers... not good.

go to www.tppa.org then member directory (or something like that) then click the link that reads something like show all etc. they have like 1700 members with all of their info on there.

I'd be upset if my personal member info like that was that easily available..

I tell you what, if I were a member, AND an attorney, it would be on. Maybe if a member wants to have their info released, they should be allowed to post it, but you simply don't violate the confidentiality of your members!!!

I'm not even a member and I've been getting the spam too. The only thing I ever did was register on there sister site for students. Ha, I did get the "kill you" message too Merock. I did attend ImagingUSA also.
