Firefox tweaks! - 07-13-2006, 12:59 AM

I found these Firefox tweaks on another forum and thought it would be nice to share with you guys!

To get started, type "about:config" in your FireFox address bar. The
settings you're looking for are:

1.) network.http.pipelining
2.) network.http.pipelining.firstrequest
3.) network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
4.) network.http.proxy.pipelining
5.) nglayout.ititialpaint.delay

Set #1, #2, and #4 to "true". Set #3 to a high number, like 32. Set #5 to 0.

1.) Enabling the pipelining features allows the browser to make multiple
2.) Requests to the server at the same time. The "maxrequests" is the maximum
3.) Number of requests it will send at once. I've heard that 8 is the most it
4.) Will send at once, but setting it higher won't hurt, just in case. The
5.) Initialpaint.delay is the length of time (in milliseconds) after the server
response before the browser begins to paint the page.

in short ...
makes browser faster!

You can create the two missing.
#2 is boolean
#5 is an integer

Yeah, mine is the same way. Missing 2 & 5. I still made the other changes, and looks to be a bit faster.

Regards,

Hey the "about:config" works in Opera too. But I don't know what it all means but it works!

Mine didn't like nglayout.initialpaint.delay--seemed to slow things down a bit--so I reset it, and FF is a little faster now. Thanks!

To add #5 to your browser:
Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before acting on received information.

If you're feeling brave about your browser, try the link below:

For some reason, the first time I posted the link below, it was in error. Try this one:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_...config_Entries

Look in the left hand margin for the Firefox browser settings and their meanings.

For anyone who cares, Netscape and Firefox were written by the same person, so they are half brothers(?). The same changes that work on Firefox will work on Netscape.
