Any suggest a good Portriat Posing book? - 08-07-2006, 01:45 PM

I can pose a dog all day long! But people scare me! I keep getting asked to shoot people, but I am just not confident in that especially with posing. Can anyone suggest a good posing for portrait book?

Thanks in advance!

rangefinder.com has Don Blair's Bodyparts on sale for 24.95. It is over $80 on some sites.

I don't know about a book, but scanning the different galleries on pbase.com should give you some good ideas...and some not so good ones.

Hello Heidi,
Sorry no book suggestion but do check out pbase.com if you haven't already.

Paulo - awesome site and info

Heidi - I shoot with kids mostly and they are moving targets. We should have a section in for posing people (hint - hint to admin) to show the different dos and don't when posing people for different reason. I tell mostly to give me elbows and knees and they bend them for me. Like I said moving targets. lol

Best advice is look through different types of modeling poses in the search section. My all time pose is a swat pose. It's hard for them to stay in that position but the effect is great.

Happy shooting.

Thanks guys.

Paulo, beautiful stuff. I will check out the site.

Robin, your description of the kids, is the same with me with puppies! You just hope you get good shots. With the puppies I like them to be natural as possible and know they will eventually perk into the right position! Love the squat!

Gordon, wow! That is tooooo cool! Thanks!!!!!!!

I don't have a studio, we usually set everything up at dog shows and then take it down. So I don't have much of an chance to play with lights and thing. But as soon as the kids go to school, I wanted to get the stuff out and just move furniture so I can have a place to play for a bit!

Gordon - wow - great find. I'll have to share this with my girls.
Heidi - best bet with the kids is to let them play and you will get the best photos.

Gordon, that site ROCKS! I just wish that I could click on the individual pictures to see the larger image. Each time I try it opens a new window and tells me, "Page cannot be displayed".

I know Robin, it seems when I tell my kids to pose I get such horrible faces! I have to share one of my favorite photos from our trip this summer of my daughter. This is here and one of her silly faces.....
