Really cool photo on Sportsshooter - 08-09-2006, 09:18 AM

http://www.sportsshooter.com/port_po...32&i_id=466279

Talking with PeteQ this past weekend, he mentioned something about this photo. I had to look for myself and I have to say, it's pretty cool.

I guess he clamped a D200 to the rider's handle bars and the camera was fired remotely.

A D200 with the 10.5mm fisheye mounted on the handlebars with a Super Clamp and Pocketwizards to fire it, as Steve stated. AWESOME SHOT! I'm just surprised the camera survived.

I've thought of shots similar in execution but can't imagine ever having the balls or financiall backing to risk a camera body + lens like that.

The first one didn't survive well...the super clamp broke, but the camera didn't bite it.

Second attempt was not too bad. But that's Mark Rebilas for you. This is the same guy that hand-holds a 400mm f2.8 at football and racing.

Yep, just got another email stating the same fact. Gil is the dad's name.

You know what, the more I think about it, the more I appreciate all the technology that has been introduced into photography.

I know there are a number of stalwarts that will exclaim the hay-day of photography was back in the 60's and 70's, but Mark's photo is a perfect example of what can be accomplished today, with all our high-tech gizmos. Mark's shot would be virtually impossible to attain back in the "good 'ole days".

Unless you were willing to ride on the handlebars.

You wouldn't have seen motorcycle riding like that back in the 60's or 70's either unless you were watching the other Evil's show.

NOPE. same thing fisheye and a bolt it down and set a timer with you motor drive snaping at 8 fps using an eos1n with a mirror that didnt move. Or if you wanted to bust out the huge dollars you get the Hassy super wide and throw the motor drive on there and go for it. 10k back in the mid 80's

does the pocket wiz make it easier yeppers for sure but it could have been done with toys from the 80's-90's

if you want to see some realy interesting images go and look up the guys that used to shot for Lockheed and Boeing back in 60-90's those guys made it possible to lots of things. The old industrial photographers where king back then. If you where a staffer for Lockheed you where one of the best. shooting off a gyro while the chopper pilot would auto rotate all while hanging off the skids.

Rebilas is my hero. Him and Miralle. Someday they and Brad Pitt are going to morph into one person, and whatever the result is, I'm going to marry it.
