I keep getting these emails from Adobe about buying royalty free photos.
Why would I want to BUY pictures after investing in a camera and Buying Adobe Photo editing/processing products?
Who buys those photos, and why?

It is aimed at designers and the like. The goal I think is to have the stock photos intergrated in an easy to use package that works seamlessly with Photoshop/Indesign, etc.

Yep - those graphics guys are weird ducks.
The guys at our company used Istock and other cheapie stock places for brochure images, even though I offered to do custom one of a kind shots for them.

Hey!

Yes, us designer types use them. We don't always have clients that are willing to pay for a photographer so we have to look for stock imagery. Usually royalty free stuff since the usage rights can make things more expensive than having the photo shot locally. And we'll use the stock stuff in layouts all the time just to get an idea across and then shoot something similiar when we get to the final stages of the project.

So are some of us photographers. Or so some people think. You should have seen the look on my neighbor's face when she saw me with my camera and macro lens on a tripod, pointed at a leaf on her tree which overhangs my property. "What are you doing???" she said in an almost giggly voice.
