I'll take a stab at this. He is an American, on the lamb in Japan, drinking from the bottom of a coke can he bought from that store on the corner, standing in the middle of the road with what appears to be a vehicle making a right turn into him.

LOL... I think most of us have 4 fingers. At least, last time I looked.
Ok. Yes, he's in Japan. Yes, he's drinking from the bottom of the can. Notice that the can is tin, not aluminum. It has the steel seam top and bottom.
This is a scanned image of a PanX photo I shot in 1973 while in Japan for the military.
I was talking about this can with someone else yesterday and never knew that soda and beer cans need a can opener. She thought all cans for ever had pop tops...
One of the older folks noticed that right away...
