I have the lens, but I am in Dallas, TX.
Have you tried any camera rental stores in your area?
Good luck !!

The 85mm F 1.8 does a great job for indoor sports.

Adam,

Sorry to hear about your woes! You'd probably be much better off shooting V-Ball with the 85 f/1.8 (or 1.4) better though. Most gyms are too dark to shoot (at the shutter speed I like to shoot at) when using f/2.8. And you can probably get the 85mm f/1.8 for roughly $350.

Best of luck to you on the student loan issue... I know that all too well! As soon as I paid mine off... I inherited my fiance's! ARRRGHHHHH!

Mine should be in California about now otherwise I would loan it to you. Of course... it went to California because it had problems so I don't know that it would do you much good...

Yes, I do. I would venture to say that "most" photogs who shoot volleyball use the 85mm f/1.4 or f/1.8. I use both the 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8. I would've gotten the f/1.4 but it's 3 times the price of the f/1.8 and I don't have that much need for a $1000 85mm prime... other than volleyball and the occasional portrait.

Actually, I'm going to rent the 200mm f/2 for a tournament next weekend... that should be a lot of fun... I'll have to let you know how that goes!
