PhotoRelect alternatives? - 09-07-2006, 02:05 PM

I am seeking alternatives sites to sell my photos online. I am currently using PhotoRelect. I really like eveything they offer so far. The only thing I'm not thrilled about in the very slow speed of my Storefront (where customers go to view and order prints). I can imagine how frustrated my customers might be when it comes time to purchase photos and they have over 100 photos to scan through.

PROS:
  • Unlimited uploads
  • Built-in credit card & check processing
  • Discount pricing options
  • Freedom to set your own pricing, packages <=== very important
  • No Storage Fees
  • No Upload Fees
  • No Monthly Fees

CONS:
  • Slow Storefront speeds
  • Difficult to migrate software to other PCs
  • Fees are a little steep. (E-commerce fee (15%), Payment processing fee (3%))

Sonny,

Take a look here in the business section stickies for "Online Hosting Companies". There is a spreadsheet that's fairly current with offerings from a lot of places. Hope this helps.

Thank you Harry. I should of mentioned I am looking for users and their personal experience with online sales sites. In the meantime I will look at that list.

Thanks,
Sonny

I printed that list Sonny and unless you're looking for monthly fees or storage limits, you are going to be spending alot more than 18% per order.

As for your storefront, are you using the new templates? Do you use large image previews?
How slow is slow when you zoom on the images or transition between them?

Erica,

I switched to the newer Storefront two days ago and was hoping this would improve the browsing speeds for my customers. The main issue is when the customer chooses an event. The time it takes for the photos to display and switch pages are the biggest problems. I have not used the zoom or transition features.

Sonny,

Check out smugmug. They say they will be adding packages soon.

I actually have a Pro Smugmug account. But like you mentioned they do not offer the option of creating packages.
