Sorry I didn't see this sooner.
Chicken soup really does work.
And as a previous poster suggested, Cold-Eeze works too. It's a zinc lozenge.
I've been doing the chicken soup and Cold-Eeze thing for the last few years and when I get a cold now, it lasts about 3 or 4 days instead of 7 or 8 days.
Hope you feel better soon...

I have been sick with a cold for over two weeks. My chest is so congested I can hardly stop coughing. I went to the dr. wednesday, diagnosed as having bronchitis. The damn drugs the dr prescribed are making me even sicker than I was. At least I didnt suffer from nasea before. I am probably going back to the dr to change anti biotics. Everyone in my house has it and one of my friends now too. There is definately something going around. I also suffer from ragweed allergies and trust me, this isn't any allergy. Best to bite the bullet Murph and see the dr.

Okay, this is my great-great grandmother's cure for any type of cough or cold-
1/2 shot jigger of whiskey
juice from 1/2 a lemon
then fill the rest of the jigger with honey
She would warm it slightly on the stove and then give us 2 tsp. every 4-6 hours. Now as an adult I take 1/2 of the jigger every 4-6 hours. great stuff! Drink lots of OJ and water, sleep about 18 hours and you will feel better.
I hope you feel better soon. I am hounding my kids about washing thier hands. there are so many lovely little bugs out there. Knock on wood-we've made it almost a month in school and not brought anything home.

as long as you're drinking tea, put a few Halls Drops in the tea while it's hot. the combination of the mentol and the tea works well for me

if it wernt for Emergen-C packet drinks in the daytime, and Nyquill at night, I would not have made it through the last cold.
Now, that bronchystuffed, had that last year, and Emergen-C packets, Nyquill, and antibiotics from the dr finally got me through it in 13 days.
ALL THIS TIME, and FOREVER I am on Allegra, and spray Flonase due to junk from plants and hairy animals in the air. Funny, but ozone days don't effect me, cept makin the bus ride free.

Got back from the Dr., got a shot of different antibiotics and a new prescription. Hopefully this cure will be better than the last one :P. At least I am only coughing up half the nasty stuff I was before. Seriously Murph, get thee to a DR. If you have what I have, and the Dr. is seeing alot of it going around right now, your not gonna get better on your own.

Emergen-C is just concentrated vitamin C. As your immune system is mostly your digestive tract, acidophilus will help restore proper "flora" so you can fight this off better on your own. Neither costs much, and neither will cause any problems IMO. HOWEVER, please ask your doctor/pharmacist just to make sure before taking anything else.

First thing to do is make sure no birds around your house are coughing!!!!! If they are all ok get some JD and take a shot or two. Drink warm fluids unless your running a fever then drink cool fluids!!! Rest drink eat repeat till well!!!! The JD or any whiskey will help your general outlook thats about it!!!!

Antibiotics for a sinus infection and bronchitus, nothing for the cold other than Robitussin DM, and lots of liquids.
