I remember I saw a post about local store people not nice on phone. And I remember they corrected the problem, not so much I think

My friend called told me he want to buy digital camara with flash today or max tomorrow. he told me his budget I suggested to get Xt from local store. He said please find out everything call me and he will pick up.

First thing I did is to call local number 713. Rep comeby
Me: how much is canon xt cost?
rep: 699
me how much is just body?
rep: 5xx
rep there is new camara coming XTi
me : how much?
rep: don't know it is not out.
me: oh I want to buy today or tomorrow so looking

rep: oh so you calling everyone for price.
me: yes that is the plan.

rep: then search internet for chep price.
me: I can't because I need it on my hand tomorrow. If I want to search internet I would have done it.

me: in my mind (what is wrong with that calling few store)
Then few sentense of argument between us.

I just hold phone for few second and just hang up.
I didn't know what else to do.

ok well having to deal with, what I like to call, tire kickers, all day. Let me preface this by saying that I am a commision sales person. I find it annoying that people will call up and just shop you, but I also know that it is the nature of the beast.

That sales person needs to find a job that does not require "people skills" it is the sales persons job to give the person on the phone, whatever they are asking for.

I personally would have asked to speak to that persons boss and explain that the sales person you were speaking to was doing a disservice to that company by arguing with a customer. especially given that you were looking to purchase a camera, and service is sometimes more important that price.

But remember hind sight is always 20/20, might be worth an email, now that things have cooled off.

Norm,

Are you saying that it is wrong just to call and ask the price on something? I can't imaging NOT calling every local store in my area and finding out the price before buying. It just seems, to me, stupid not to do that. I can understand the guy on the phone getting tired of giving out quotes all day... but that's kinda his job.

No I did not say that, I said that I dont like it, but it is part of the job!
I said "it is the sales persons job to give the person on the phone, whatever they are asking for. "

In addition I'd like to add that when dealing with tire kickers I will try to give them reasons for doing business with us over our competition.

My business is extremely competitive and I don't try to compete with the lowest price. We are a "value added" company. We provide service more than most.

More and more people and companies aren't worried about spending a few extra dollars if they can get better service.

People (sales people included) also can get frustrated if the communications isn't clear (bad cell connection, cultural or language barriers, etc.

For what it is worth the more I buy, the less I shop price as the main factor.

I agree they are human as well but as soon as I said I am looking because I want to buy today he told me to look in internet that is obvious.

If someone calls me ask me for my package price I know he/she still looking trying to find out person in his/her budget. I don't tell them to go hunt on internet.

I am guessing there may be a language barrier here. Sometimes it is difficult to explain what you are wanting in a "second" language. I've had similar circumstances in other non-English speaking countries.

I'm thinking the salesman didn't understand you were going to buy today or tomorrow from him. He was correct that the lowest price can probably be found on the net, but he could have asked more questions (this in itself can seem like a "bad attitude" if the customer doesn't feel he is being helped) and found out what the situation really was.

tell you now. we'll be selling the body for $799 and the kit for $899 thereabouts. But since we're still waiting on canon to send us some, we can't sell any till then.

So good luck finding one at the moment.
