I surprised that you don't have the oil companies tied @ #1, they have soaring profits this year.
I hate to hear people complain about insurance and about the price of it. I swear, I've never heard anyone complain when the lost everything and an insurance company hands them a check. |
I have no problem with profit, Insurance companies just do absolutely everything to get out of paying a claim, and many of them are outright fraudulent. Not all of them. I'm pretty happy with Aetna, though they will still do everything in their power to avoid paying a claim, however legitimate it may be, they will eventually pay it.
I know initially it got this way because of people abusing insurance, and now it's come full circle as it allows crappy insurance companies to abuse people. In 2004 we paid about $8000 in medical bills because our insurance company wouldn't process or pay for legitimate claims we were covered for. We spoke to a couple lawyers, they agreed we were right, but it would cost as much or more to fight it and we would likely not win.
Needless to say we're with Aetna now, and it's much better. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, Aetna has the same policy mentioned in the original post. Some policies, however inconvenient, I understand. This is not one of them. If you can pay for the additional coverage, why on earth can they not make it effective immediately? They're going to dispute the first claim as an existing condition anyway, it's policy. 2 Months and reams of paperwork later they'll cover it and all will be normal.
Oil is cheap. I get what I pay for. With insurance, I pay out the nose and have to spend hours if not weeks to get what I've already paid for.
