Question Scenic Texas - where do you go ? - 10-08-2006, 11:15 AM

I'm interested in scenic locations in and around NorthTexas area. Living in the DFW Area, I'm so tired of the power lines, water towers and building/structures that ruin the shot of a good scenery.
I'm interested in good sunsets (without the afore menchioned structures) Old barns on pasture land.

Any suggestions (as I'm not originally from Texas)

but I did get here as fast as I could !

thanks!

Really to get tp get the type of scenery that you want go out on any of the old State Highways about 45-60 miles outside of the core of Dallas or Ft Worth and you should be able to find something that fits the bill. So no travelling down I-30,I-20, I-35, I-45 or 75 to find what you are looking for but more travelling on the old backroads.

Now as to trying to find a different local topagraphy then that is a different story and you need to really hunt to find some good hills or nice flowing rivers.

Go South on 35, take 67 S. To Glen Rose. Go thru Glen Rose about 7 miles to Chalk Moutain. Also for barns, in Glen Rose take 56 toward Granbury,

Take 377 South to Acton and shoot the Acton cemetary where Davy Crockett's widow is buried. It is listed as the smallest state park in Texas. Then going South on 377 go to Glen Rose. From there take the back roads and you'll be surprised at what you can find.

purchase this paperback book of maps

http://www.amazon.com/Texas-Atlas-Ga...e=UTF8&s=books

I got mine at Sam's for much less than $20.

fill up a tank of gas, and start driving the back roads thru the small towns. If the metro-mess is west of you, go east!

if you pay the slightest bit of attention to where you are and what road you are on, you can't get lost with this book of maps.

if a town has an interesting name, go check it out.

read the week-end newspaper, they often have stories of interest/historical happenings in North Central Texas. Go check them out.

In NCTex, you have to get out and find your subjects, that's just the way it is. that's what my friends and I do. we hardly ever know where we will end up, but we always find something to photograph, and we never get lost.

have fun in your adventures, take your wife/husband, look for stuff together, you will both have a great time, and it's a cheap trip.
