Flying restrictions and carry on equipment - 10-11-2006, 10:47 AM

Hubby and I are taking a trip to Lake Tahoe this weekend. Are we allowed to carry on camera equipment bags right now? There is no way I'm checking this stuff. I have a borrowed lens with me that I'll just die if something happens to it.

You can carry it on. The only thing I don't know about is tripods.

Everything else you need to know is in this thread...

Have fun!

PS: I travel at least once a month (usually more) and always carry my camera gear on. I use a Tamrac Expedition 5 and it fits under the seat in front of me on every plane I've flown including the little RJ's. I'm afraid to put it in the overhead because people tend to get up there and move stuff around. A guy pulled my camera bag out one time to reposition stuff and almost dropped it. Good thing he didn't or I would have had to kill him.

I always carry my camera gear on and never have any problems. Just flew last week and again on Sunday that just passed.

I put my tripod in my huge checked bag and it always comes out ok.

Have a great time in Tahoe, you will LOVE it!!!! take clothes for both warm and cold weather.

You should be fine. I flew from Australia yesterday and had no problems.

Can't carry any liquids on to international flights into the US, but you can on domestic flights, if you buy them in the airport. Liquids/ gels are restricted to 3oz, but camera equipment is the same as usual. Not allowed tripods in carry-on luggage - but I usually check that, packed into a suitcase/ wrapped in clothes.

I use a lowepro minitrakker and computrakker, which fits in the overhead bins.

The forecast is 55 for the peak and 25 for the low. I usually freeze at 65 degrees. This is going to be fun!
