Bah. Best fight was in the Mets/Reds championship series. I was at Shea Stadium that day, and as a die-hard Yankee fan, was rooting for the Reds. Pete Rose did a spikes up slide into Buddy Harrelson to break up a double play. Harrelson retaliated, both benches emptied. The brawl went on for over 10 minutes at least. Then play was stopped for awhile.
Rose was playing right field. He went to the field and the fans started throwing things at him: Bottles, broken bottles, full cans of stuff, the field was totally littered. Rose, being Rose, gave them the finger, went back to his dugout, put on his batting helmet!, and went back to the field.
The umpires called a time-out and threatened to forfeit the game unless the Mets fans calmed down. The Mets were winning, so this was not a good thing at all. Then Cleon Jones, Tommy Agee and one of the other Mets went to left field and pleaded with the fans to stop throwing things at Rose and let play resume so they could win the game.
By the way, during all this, after getting a few death threats, my friends and I stopped being so loud in our support of the Reds.
I can't believe this fight didn't make the top 10. Or the one with the Yankees where 68 year old Dom Zimmer threw himself at someone, and nearly got killed.
