In time for Halloween, what are your favorite horror movies? - 10-27-2006, 09:08 PM

There are only a few days until Halloween, and I was curious as to what everyone's favorite horror/thriller movies are. Some that I can watch over and over again are:

Jaws - Not scary per se, but a classic suspense flick.
The Shining - One of my favorite movies of all time. Kubrick's directing and Nicholson's acting are amazing.
The Ring - First movie in a long time that actually scared me.
The Sixth Sense - Great suspense and ending.
Saw - Gory, disturbing, and great.
Night of the Living Dead - Low budget classic. Ending completely floored me.
Psycho - Hitchcock was a genius.

I'll stop there, but I could go on for awhile (I love horror movies). Here is retroCRUSH's top 100 scary movie moments.

I'll agree on Psycho, The Shining, and Night of the Living Dead.

Other favorites of mine are Repulsion and The Tenant by Roman Polanski. The Birds by Hitchcock.

And I also really like Nosferatu, either by FW Murnau, or the remake by Werner Herzog with Isabella Adjani and Klaus Kinski. The Murnau movie is genuinely scary.

I don't like gore. I love movies that mess with your mind.

Alfred hitchcock was wonderful for that.

The Birds - TERRIFIED me.
The Exorcist - NEVER will I watch it again - way too scary for me.

Blair witch project. As campy as it was, it scared me.

Dracula. The one with Bella Lugosi. I especially like the version with the soundtrack by the Kronos Quartet. I watch it every Halloween night. I like 28 Days Later and The Exorcist. And Freaks by Tod Browning which is just downright creepy. This is a wonderful time of the year for movie watching at home.

The Exorcist. This is probably the only movie that has really scared me, but I love it! And I love the music from Halloween, it just sounds scary. I enjoyed The Shining and The Ring, but they just don't scare me, well, except when the girl came out of the tv in the Ring at the end. That was creepy.

hmmmm... I can never get into the classic horror movies, they just make me laugh. I would of loved the Shinning, but damn Shelley Duvall's acting completely ruined it for me. Yes I know Terry, I complain too much about that one and ruin the movie for you every time it comes on TV, but her acting is REALLY REALLY bad! Oh, and I just learned that she was born in Houston!

The Ring was scary huh!?! Getting that anonyms phone call right after and the cable going out that night was just disturbing!

Jaws, man I love that movie. I will never get tired of it. One reason I hate to go wad fishing with you. We're not the smartest people in the world when it comes to that, so buy a boat! Oh and just a reminder! I still haven’t used that VERY EXPENSIVE fishing pass you made me buy! You owe me $59!!

Anyway, back on topic...

Saw, really really love that movie! Can't wait to see Saw III tonight! Although, you can't hide behind me this time when that clown comes out on his tricycle!

No original Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans?
I love all of the 30's horror films, Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, etc. Love the one scene in Dracula where an armadillo is along the staircase, guess they thought that was scary back then. I believe many of the set pieces from the original Frankenstein movies are at Los Colinas now.

On Hitchcock the man could really get the hairs on your neck to stand up!
Heard a story this week about Rear Window that I had not heard before, the photographer that James Stewart played in the movie was based on a real photographer that I believe was based out of New York and was a PJ.

If you want to get into freaky watch some of the classic Fellini movies, that guy could find some strange people to populate his movies.

Anyone into the Rob Zombie movies? I really like those. Or how about Re-Animator. But I'm with Paul- any of the old Universal flicks from 30's and 40's are some of the best. Tame by today's standards but very atmospheric and superb sets.

None really. I wish there was a actual movie that is scary. I guess I do not get scared easily. Maybe a videoclip of a 70-200L f/2.8 IS falling and breaking into pieces. Now I guess that would be scary.....Or if Apple surpasses Microsoft in OS.....
