Update to wedding help - 10-30-2006, 06:41 PM

Ok I met with the bride and her mom tonight.
This is sort of the run down.
The wedding starts at 4pm, but they want me there by 2 which is fine to shoot as much before the wedding mine the bride and groom shots.
They also want a "photo corner" where I would shoot a portrait of all the guests too
Any way, to do that I would have to have an assistant but so far I haven't found one.
So now on to my ??s they are willing to pay but not sure what to charge. I am assuming I would be there from basically 130-6 or so, the reception will be fairly short too since it will take place in the church also and they don't allow DJs etc...
They were quoted $800 to cover the wedding and reception (too much) then they were quoted by someone else $500 for 2.5 hours.
Since I am not a pro but do pretty good work where would be your starting point price wise just for time if nothing else?

OH and the Sanctuary has absolutely NO windows and will only be lit by blinking lights and candles so I know that I will have to use th 50mm 1.7 but what would be the highest ISO you would use?
TIA for all of your help!!

Do they want packages or do they want to pick all prints, albums etc. after the wedding a la carte style? If they are buying everything after the wedding make sure you build in profit for yourself up front. I'm at the just starting out stage myself and having done a "favor" before and seen how I was rewarded (poorly...someone with a 20D dogged my every move, snapped every shot I did, and gave out a CD to EVERYONE later, I didn't get a single print sale after the event) I would make charge a minimum of $300 for that amount of coverage just for my time. Thats kinda on the low end too...

Edit: as far as the iso goes....go as high as you have to to get the shot, if thats 3200 then so be it. It's better to be noisy and sharp than motion blurred and un-noisy.

---------------------------
1d mkII, 20D, sigma 15mm f2.8, 28 1.8, 50 1.8, 28-70 2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 1.4 mkII extender. Fisheye and 28 1.8 are sigma ex, rest are canon.

thank you very much Nathan.
I will have to ask. That was something I didn't think to ask.
I have to get something atleast for my time and then go from there for prints of packages.
Thanks again for your thoughts I greatly appreciate them
