just got a notice from the Free AVG Anti-Virus that their trial period for the free version will be over in January 2007.

looks like I will have to find another free program or break down and actually buy the AVG program

Anyone else get this notice?

it was a so called system notice, after I booted up this morning and it nabbed the latest definition updates and installed them, the notice showed up.

At least I have 3 months to decide on what to do. I have really liked AVG free

It's not over, they're just changing the version. You can get a free new version if you follow the update link to their site.

I love AVG and have the paid version. It allows me the ability to schedule my updates and scans, so it doesn't affect my computer use. Plus, it isn't as hard on the memory useage as Norton, McAfee etc.

AVG would work on my system for a few months, then it would start giving me blue screens on boot... I finally gave up and bought something reliable.

One of our old friends works for NAI, so we've always gotten McAfee for free. I've never even bothered to compare anything!

I have used it for a long time on many machines. Works very well for me... And yes as mentioned, the free version 7 is over.. but 7.5 works just fine and as far as I know will continue to offer a free home (non-corp) version.

I recommend Avast antivirus. Totally free and one of the best that I've ever used.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Free is always nice. When comcast was here you would get a subscription to McFee internet suite. Time warner switched to CA security suite. Even AT&T Yahoo offers a security suite. I have not bought AV software in years.
