I was glad to see only small kids last night at my door. The last few years we seem to have had a run of teenagers (guessing around 15 or 16 yrs. old) ringing the door bell wanting candy. What age do you consider too old to be trick or treating?

14 was the limit for my son and will be for my daughter also.

Has to be at least 40....that will give me two more years.......

Man, had ZERO trick or treaters for the 7th consecutive year...... MOOOHAHAHA.
I do love all the little kids dressed up, but not having any of our own we usually end up somewhere else for halloween - usually family WITH kids.

For some odd reason tho, we have never had any visitors......

If the teenager is in costume and escorting smaller kids then no real age limit, if just some sugar junkies then I would say around 14.

It depends on their attitude and the way they're dressed. No costume and an attitude? They get the stuff out of the bottom of the basket that even the candy maker won't eat if they get anything at all. Small (under 6 or so) and cute and dressed up gets more and the good stuff...
As usual, we had about 50 zillion kids but with my middle granddaughter helping to hand out candy (she does double handfuls if you're not watching her closely), it didn't last long.. It's fairly well recognized that people practically bus the kids in for Halloween over in se Mesquite so one has to more or less plan for that. Our light went out about 8PM and the neighborhood was deathly quiet and deserted by 9PM.

A complaint though... when we were little, we walked from place to place and house to house or we didn't get to go T&T'ing. What's with parents who are too lazy to walk with their kids so instead, drive down the street really slow watching their kids go from house to house and blocking traffic? Bunch of lazy buttheads...

We had one kid, about 5 years old dressed as a Ninja. I gave him a huge amount of candy.

This was the first year I didn't go out with my son. He's now 14, and went with a friend who is 13. They both wore costumes, and got plenty of candy. I felt a bit awkward even last year going round with him, as he's quite tall. When he was little I used to think that teenagers were too old to trick or treat, but try telling that to him now! I grew up in England, where the candy extortion racket didn't exist at Halloween, so I don't really know what to think about age limits. I don't mind giving candy to teenagers, so long as we don't run out for the little kids, and we never do. I do think they should make an effort with the costumes, though.

Our bell rang only 5-6 times, all small children.

I wouldn't set an age limit. If someone comes to the door in costume, I would give them a treat. Way back when, this was not a kid's holiday.

The parents in their cars just tear me up. There were dozens of them in our neighborhood last night. I could hardly get home! We also get a lot of teenage (14-18) mexican boys with no costume, a plastic grocery store bag and maybe some fake blood on their face. I don't get it. I usually give them like 1 piece of candy.

IMO, if they are old enough get a job and drive to the store and buy themselves some candy - they are too old for trick or treating.

I would say, if they're old enough that the 'trick' part of the trick or treat might involve something nasty (like smashing a window or something like that), then they're too old. Did that make any sense?

I don't care how old you are, as long as you're in costume and polite you get goodies.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Who are we to set a limit on who can enjoy the holiday? What i don't agree with are the teenagers (or parents) looking for candy that are NOT in costume. Again, I don't care how old you are... if you want candy do your job and wear a freakin costume.

In all honesty, I give more goodies to those wearing better costumes. Not necessarily better made/expensive, but creative, unique, or just thought out well.

True I may be rewarding the child for the parent's work, but oh well.

I believe that Fort Worth has set the legal age at 15. Have your 16th birthday and you are cut off from "childish things".

I agree with comments about the parents driving down the streets. If something happens to their kids, how fast can they respond? Wonder how many kids almost got run over by parents watching their own kids at the door?
