Where are those darn mechanical bodies when you need them?

You could have just bought a disposable film camera and went retro! I hear film is all the rage amongst "creatives" these days.

six batteries in the bag and a bunch of CF cards helps slow down the "oh oh" factor.

Never forgot a battery, but had to stop and buy some emergency way-over-priced CF cards once.

When packing for a day of shooting, make sure your batteries are fully charged. Been there, done that.

have you ever seen a 1D battery ? Six of those wouldn't slow down the 'oh oh' factor, it would slow down the walking factor, just for the weight. (3.5 lbs of batteries right there :) ) 1.5oz for a 30D battery, 10.5 oz for a 1D battery. They are quite light cameras when the battery is out (should have given it away!)

That and they are about $120 each and good for about 500-600 exposures per charge.

Fair point though ;)

You don't have chargers in your car? Best thing I've done in a while is set up a multiple charging system for my car. I can charge two batteries for the grip at the same time.

I ever have a system for powering my Laptop in it but that was for war driving rather than photography.

If I could afford six Canon batteries for my 1D, I'd have one battery and another lens.

but yeah--been there, done that. And it's perfectly obvious that the battery is missing, too; there's a big gaping hole in the grip. Strange that I never noticed it until AFTER arriving at the destination...

Afraid not. Something else to add to my list.

Got mine at walmart, in Roswell, NM (after my 4 year old one died with smoke).

Lesson from me:
Don't forget when hiking up a mountain with your camera, gear, and tripod, to have the quick release plate also packed or on the camera. Otherwise you just have a very awkward walking stick/prop.
