Not sure if any of you can point me [us] in the right direction!

Hubby grew up in Upstate NY, hunted all his life (mainly deer and rabbit) Since moving to TX 10 yrs ago he has done it but once or twice.

He is having a real hard time finding anywhere to hunt, and would especially like to go rabbit hunting with his Beagles. Anyone got any ideas of a decent place to go that is NOT the National Forest?

Any idea of some good leases? Or public land? We live Nrth Houston.

Thanks in advance for ANY help!

There is very little public hunting land in Texas. You might check on some of the TPWD public hunting areas.

Otherwise he would have to find a lease but most of those are geared for deer hunting and bird shooting.

Might check with some of the local beagle clubs to.

Texas Parks and Wildlife does lease some private land which it makes available for public hunting. You must buy the permit which is $48 per hunter which is good for a year. When purchasing the permit you will receive a booklet which provides maps and locations. A lot of this land is timber company land which they lease to the state. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/ If he is interested and wants someone to go with him, send me a pm. I have never hunted rabbits with beagles but always wanted to.

You might also check with the deer hunters. Most times, they only are interested in the lease from Sept thru Dec as thats Deer Season. He might can work something out for the rest of the year.
