I just finished building a new machine. The new Core Duo processor, 4 Gb of RAM, and about 940 Gb of SATA drive space made a heck of a difference in my processing time. NN flies. Actions rip. But... the @*$@_$ GeForce 6800 died with less than 30 hours on it so I don't have as much time with it as I would like.

Tiget Direct has a similar (not the same) system with 2 Gb or RAM for $2,100. Not bad. I didn't like the little power supply that they supply with it but other than that it seemed like a good deal.

has your PC always been this slow?

what are the specs of your system?

have you run adaware and spybot S&D lately? or an anti virus (several new bugs out lately)

also how many process do you have running (PC processes) hit the crtl alt delete keys to bring up the Windows Task Manager, click on the processes tab and in the lower left it will tel you how many processes are running. if oyu have more than 45 or 50 this could be a problem.

in the processes tab select the column for MEM usage, this will sort it by highest or lowest memory usage process. if you have a lot of processes running it will make your system very slow, especially if many of the processes are using a lot of memory.

most of the processes are vital to running windows, having access to the net and so on, so just dont close processes at will.

if oyu have a bunch of programs auto loading on windows start (seen in your system tray by the clock). go in to all of those you really done need to auto load and set the option for them NOT to load on windows start.

Holly, I am having the exact same problem lately! Now, I'm getting a processing error message while in PSCS2. I think I need to clear some of my pics off of this comp and put them on an external. Hopefully, that will help.

Just my one experience with this: Mine ground to a halt in CS2 some time ago. I'd loaded over a 100 12mp raw photos, fuji converted to tif as copies. CS2 pretty much locked up the computer. I cold started it. After it booted good, I looked at my disks. C-drive was 3% free. I then went to CS2 settings, and yep, CS2 wanted 50% of C-free. I wound up burning DVD's to clear photos off, and copied the same ones to another hard drive. Got 48% free on C. Then I looked at my larger D drive, cleaned it off, and wow, it had over 120GB free! So I changed CS2 to use D instead of C. It has never slowed down since.
