Any law type people on TPF?? - 11-08-2006, 10:32 PM

I am curious to know if anyone here is able to provide me with some assistance. I am trying get into a process to adopt my step-daughter. The bio-father has already said he would give up his writes, but the process is very pricey. I wanna get it down, with my tax return, but looking at all my options. Is there #1 anyone on the group that can provide me with some direction to find a cheap way to get it down or #2, anyone that is starting out as a lawyer or paralegal or someone that can assist in drawing up legal papers and would help out a fellow TPF member or maybe give me a good discount.

We live in Oklahoma, so I dont know if that is gonna make a difference, but its something we want to get done around the 1st of the year so I am starting the leg work now. Thanks gang.

You'll need an OK lawyer, and better yet one that specilizes in Family Law. You Don't want it done wrong or it can come back and bite you in the keister.

I've had a couple of friends adopt recently- both have been long headaches.
One was even through Catholic Charities and was an adoption freely done by an unwed mother and a felon prisoner bio-father who both freely wanted to give up parental rights, and it was still expensive and a hassle (but worth it in the end).

You might see if the legal services department of your work has some advice. Often you'll get law/service friendly attorneys that will help you for the good will.
