No shooting today, but I think the wife and I are going to head down to Brazos Bend State Park tomorrow to hopefully see some birds and other wildlife. We were there once before but it was a hot August afternoona and the wildlife wasn't active.

Nothing today as I'm being lazy, going to clean the apartment and then go to Cirque du Soleil tonight. But I have tomorrow and I am also off on Monday. I think i might go to Hermann Park on Monday.

Saturday I ended up doing a couple of work and home related projects.

Today I went to the zoo with the wife and some dear friends. (Who also happen to have a 20D).

I more than filled my 1 Gig card (also have a 128 MB card that I put over 100 MBs on). Now comes the fun part of transferring all these pics to my computer, sorting and organizing. The sweet part was that my friend had borred a Caon 75-300 IS lens from another friend, and I ended up using it most of the day. The weather was perfect and most of the critters were out (Saw the lions roaming around in the sun for the first time I can remember).

I think we'll end up buying a zoo pass in the near future. It's $45 for an individual membership which allows you and a guest access for a year. At a normal price of $7 an entry fee, it'll quickly pay for itself.

Missed you by a day! I'm thinking of going back again tomorrow since it's free. DH and I contemplated getting the pass, but I'm not sure if we'd actually end up using it enough to warrant the cost.

I haven't been to the Houston zoo in probably 4 years, and things sure have changed!!! Admission has certainly increased to reflect that as well. Last time I went, admission was only a couple of dollars and the kids were free. They have made some much needed improvements though, so I can't complain. It still has plenty of upgrades that are needed, but they're on their way to having a top notch zoo in Houston if they keep it up.

Wendy and Steelsun,

Glad to see you were able to get to the zoo and get some shots in. I thought about it, but too many wife and kid things going on over the weekend. Im thinking about trying Friday afternoon. I was reading about the photo contest that someone here mentioned, and it sounds like fun. Hopefully you got some "winners" on your outing. If you post them to the web, give us your link, I would love to look at them.
Have a great week!

Just got back from Brazos Bend, Brazoria NWR, and San Barnard NWR. I had three beautiful days of shooting and captured 839 shots. The highlights were several Hawks captures, a Cara Cara, numerous deer, and an assortment of birds.

You did a great job with that photo! I want that lens! Even with a tripod, cable release, and using MLU, I can't get photos that sharp. Ah well, maybe for graduation in a couple of years.

I posted a couple of mine from the zoo over in the wildlife forum. Here's one my 9 year old took with his Nikon Coolpix 995:

Isn't he doing great for a 9 year old? :D
