Are you talking about bars and nightlife? There are plenty of restauants in town, though I can't think of the name of any right now. Quote: |

| South of Broad street is probably the main historical district. It is a nice area to tour around in. Many colorful homes and chruches to see in that area. You might want to check out the "market". It is an street market in the main part of town that is open every day. There is Ft. Sumpter, and the USS Yorktown..... a WW II aircraft carrier, which are nice historical tours.
Charleston is a nice old historical city. I've have always enjoyed my time there. Try google, and I'm sure you will find a lot more information.
I think you will have a nice visit there. Enjoy.

Oh yeah, good one Brad. Also, if you should get up north of Charleston (about 70 miles) be sure to check out Brookgreen Gardens. It's a lovely place. http://www.brookgreen.org/

It's been quite a few years since I was there, so I'm probably not up on the latest "fun" attractions. To me, the big attraction about Charleston, is that it is just a charming old historic city. I suspect most people head up north to Myrtle Beach, or down south to Hilton Head if they want a faster pace.
How about a fishing trip? I bet you could find one of those "walk on" party boats on short notice.

WE lived there for 3.5 years there isn't much there other than the USS Yorktown, The plantions and Ft Sumter.
The only fun thing to do is a water park in the Summer that just opened like 5 years ago up in North Charleston.
Maybe you can swing by the Citadel.
Good Luck | | | |

You must not miss seeing the Hunley in the conservation lab where it is.
The Hundley is the most important part of Naval and Civil War archealogy every found and it's discovery and recovery reads like a Clive Cussler novel and in fact Cussler was responsible for it's discovery.
I would also suggest you might want to do some photography in the historic Magnolia Cemetery. It has some very interesting markers and tombs and landscaping.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it | I was there for the burial of the crew and have corresponed over the last several years with Mark Ragan, the Hundley historian over my finding the burial places in Texas of two of the co-owners of the Hundley, several of the builders and designer of the spar torpedo all buried here in Texas. In fact the Hundley was financed and built by men from Port Lavaca.

so I don't know what's still standing. If you drive, see Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile, and Savannah Ga is nice also. Charleston is a beautiful, friendly city.

North of Charleston, maybe 20 miles, is a small plantation, if still standing after Hugo. I forget the name, but it was used for exterior scense in North and South. The locals will know the name. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
